I started running bio diesel in my truck. I happen to work right next to Houston Bio Diesel. So its convenient and they guys are cool. They where the only place I could find diesel during Hurricanne Ike.
I am now running full tanks of bio, so I changed out my fuel filter man it was dirty. My truck is quieter and running smoother on the bio. Is it my imagination or is the inner hippie in me taking over?
I just like the thought that I'm not giving money to terriorist. Next step is to start brewing my own.

Only 1 person reported higher mpg. Even biodiesel people will tell you that there is less BTU in it. I splash mixed B100 to get various concentrations and at B40 and up, I lost mileage. It will run quieter and smoother but I don't see what it means you save anything.
Very nice sound bite but not significant for 2 reasons:
1. most of our oil is from South America
2. The amount that is from questionable places is less. The amount you don't buy is even less to the point of insignificance.
Our bio went up in price here apparently becuase of high demand and the hurricane. But diesel overall dropped to around $3.75. The #1 reason i run bio is becuase of the lubricating properties. Dont really care if i lose a couple MPG's - much better then running that ULSD crap!
I run B2 here in Vegas because it's all we can buy retail-wise but it seems to run a bit better; I'm getting 20 mpgs anyway so I'm not sure whether the bio gets worse or better gas mileage because it's only 2% anyways.
I read that 2% is all you need for the added lubricity and that is my main concern. If bio was available in higher concentrations I would probably buy it due to the lessening of the demand on foreign oil regardless of where it comes from.
Around here the biodiesel is actually more expensive than the regular #2 which does not make any logical sense inasmuch as the straight biodiesel is much cheaper to produce than a gallon of regular stuff. I guess it must be the demand that is driving up the price difference.
When I run straight veggie oil or biodiesel I get 2mpg less on the highway. But since SVO is free I dont care what the milaege is. Biodiesel is about 3.75/gal here so I dont run it often.

South America as in Hugo Chavez? Is that really any better? B20 will give you the nice quiet sounds in your motor, and B2 or above will provide wonderful lubricity characteristics.
I do agree on the amount of time involved for the gallons provided, but luckily for me, there's a local station that sells B20 for about 15 cents less per gallon than the dino variety.

You don't buy it somebody else will. It's not like a bunch of you live in a small town and boycott a certain store. I'm not sure if HC supports terrorists. He doesn't like us, that much is certain.
I think the regulated return did more quietening than the B40 did. As to lubricity, I am not sold on it really helping the motor last any longer. Nobody has proved it yet. The best the "study" did was show which one has more lubricity and not how much more life the motor gets with more lubricity.
IF I had such a place, I would be all over it provided I don't lose mileage with their brew. 15 cents less per gallon is something I can appreciate.
