2006 Expedition 5.4L problem

My mom has a 2006 Expedition with almost 58,000 miles on it. Every once in a while when she is driving the engine just shuts off completely. Does anyone know what the cause of this might be? I just replaced her battery about a week ago, and it is still doing it. When the car shuts off it comes up with a message saying "fail safe mode" on the instrument panel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did some searching on this. It appears that the Fail Safe Mode or "Limp home mode" has happend to alot of people. Most of the answer that I found said that a trip to ford for a reflash solved the problem. Hope that helps some.

Are you watching the temps as this is happening? Also, have the alt tested for proper voltage and that it's not overvolting. Autozone will do this free. So is O'Reillys.

i work at the dealership, and have seen a few of these come in like this....mostly 05/06. everytime, it has been the throttle body. not sure if you fixed it yet, but i thought i'd chime in on that issue.
