it is one thing I have noticed since I got my truck, not all are the same. A friend has one same as mine except it is a 2001. He said he averages about 16.
People's driving styles and maintenance habits differ too much and not all trucks are created equal to be able to say with certainty that a 7.3 with yield (insert whatever you want here)mpg.
This is something I've noticed too. Mine seems decent on the highway and around town (14-16) but hook a trailer to it and its got some of the worst mileage towing. My dad gets awesome mileage with his (97 f250hd ext cab short bed 5spd). He averages 16-18, 16 plowing and 20's on the highway. The last trip they took to conneticut averaged 28 mpg. Yes, that was hand calculated and my dad's **** about filling the tank, recording mileage, and doing routine maintenance.
I guess I just have a hard time with even SLOWER starts than I did and a max of 55 netting me 5 more MPG. I was already driving like gramps. LMAO!! I'm certainly NOT calling you a liar by any means!! But it's making me want to start looking at why I'm not getting better. I have stock 265-75-16s, 3.73 gears, and a 2WD.
Maybe it's time I look at my up-pipes and EBPS tube...
Looking at your mods, you should be getting better than that, assuming you're not hotrodding it, and the up pipes are good and EBPS tube is clear. You might want to check with Tony about the tunes. You may need to get a different tune for better mileage than what you have. I get around 15 to 16 driving around town, but up to 18.5 on trips. Mine is an 02 crew cab 4X4 with an auto. I drive in the 75 tow setting.

I had a 99.5 equipped the same before I got my 02 and got almost identical mileage.

I know what kind of driving style got me up above 22. You're welcome to follow me around so you can see what it's like. I'd just be scared Tony's chip would revolt and just shut the truck down if you went that slow.
Checking up pipes and the EBPS tube sounds like a good idea. If the EPB sensor is bad let me know. I have an extra one laying around here somewhere. I've also got an AE if you want to plug your truck in and see if you can find anything that way.

I do hotrod it, but I still get 15ish that way. I was just curious about the 20+ claims. Like I said, I can get 18-19, but that was really babying it. I've run both DP and Tony's tunes with roughly the same mileage. Tony doesn't give HP numbers, but comparing to DP, I have stock, high-idle, daily (like 80e), tow (like 60t), race (120r) and extreme (140 smoke). I will double check my up-pipes, but I can get 28psi right now, which I assume would be tough to get with an up-pipe leak. My next project will be to clean the EBPS tube just to see what happens. Might do that tomorrow -- I also have to fix one of my door lock actuators, so it might be "tinker with the truck day" tomorrow...
Something else to check, where you get your fuel, and do you run any aditives? Additives they claim can boost mileage a small percentage point, but the quality of fuel can affect it too. I try to get mine at truckstops. They do enough volume so you know the fuel is fresh, no bacteria or algae growing in it. I run bio when I can get it, if not, I put wally-worlds ashless 2-cycle marine oil in the fuel. 1 ounce per gallon of diesel. 16 ounce bottle cost around $1.75.
Man I hate whne you guys start talking about getting 15+ mpg. I'm happy if I get 13 mpg, but then again doing about 70 mph with a 4.11 rear end, a leaky up pipe, and never even looking at my EBP tube doesn't help- does having a clean EBP tube and sensor help much? I got 210 on the original, and yes she rolls the coal

My 97 in the sig gets around 12.5mpg with the mods listed, running around 70mph. It scales in at 12,500lbs, with 4.88 gears.
