I changed the FTP sensor on my 98 Ranger XLT 3.0 (getting P0453 Sensor High Voltage Detected). I disconnected the battery for about 20 minutes to reset the code. After driving it for a while, shutting it off, and restarting it the CEL came back on with the same code. Is there anything else that will cause this code to come up? I'm at a loss. BTW, I was able to change the FTP without removing the fuel tank or the bed. I'll give details a little later. Thanks in advance for any help.
PawPaw, Thanks for the info and the link. Things are much easier to figure out when you know how they work. I will check for dry rotted vacuum lines and take it from there. I'll buy another gas cap for the heck of it because this one hasn't been changed in a while. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.
Hey, if your going to opt for a new gas cap, maybe consider opting for a Motorcraft locking type.
Seeing as how gas is likely to continue going up over the years & we don't have a lock on our fuel door, it wouldn't have to work but once to more than pay for itself!!!!
Santa brought me one last year & I keep a key in the center console! so it's handy!!! lol
Great advice on the locking cap. I will definitely get one. I think gas stealing is going to become a national pastime. I'm glad my heating oil tank is in my crawlspace and access to the fill tube is in the backyard with my 2 dogs or I'd be looking for a locking cap for that too.
