3.55's+peg leg= STUCK

ok, i have a 97 ford with auto and peg leg 3.55 rear. i want to put a locker or posi in it but dont know which one to use. i have alredy tried the lockrite locker and it sucked bad and broke after a month then i tried to weld it up solid and then that broke and when i sent it back to the manufacturer they told me that it had been welded on and they had no sympathy for me. it was a complete and total waste of 450 bucks. now i want a locker unit that has actual spider gears. which i suspect that detroit locker does not have spider
gears and that would be aggrevating. is the clutch type posi a good unit from detroit? i know the factory posi unit from ford sucks and i dont want one of those. if you have had a good experience with a locker or posi unit please share the story. thank you.

I have no problems with Detroit lockers......If I was to put a locker in the PSD it would be a selectable locker like an ARB...just hit a button when you need it and when you dont it will be easier on the drivetrain and tires

Oh yeah...and if you just want to lock it up....instead of welding it just throw a spool in it(they are only a couple hundred$$ IIRC)

Look for a super duty 3 pinion posi. Even the 10.5 will fit your 10.25
Very easy install, direct bolt in w/o re-shimming.

I found one here in the classified section for a $120 shipped.
It's about the most massive posi I've ever seen. Just about got a hernia
lifting it inot the diff

The Detroit Locker is a very good locker, but it can be a little hard on tires when on pavement. selectable is the best option if you do a lot of highway driving, The eaton(correct me if i'm wrong) e-trac is a electric selectable locker that is pretty stong and when it is not "locked" its functions as a limited slip(nice for the those rainy days). Couple of friends run the on their 1tons and they havent broke yet.

for a truck thats mostly drivin on the streets selectable is probably best detriot would be my second and posi as a third option, you can also rebiuld a posi and add a couple of the best of the old disks into the pack to make it tighter

I have the Detroit and it performs great. It does "chirp" the tires slightly when first starting forward and turning out of a drive way but nothing severe, it's just trying to release that one wheel.

basicaly a detriot operates opposit of an open diff, an open diff the power takes the path of least risistance witch means the tire with the least amount of traction, an detroit will transfer the power to the tire with the most resistance

I'm not sure the above statement is totally true, my Detroit has power to both rear wheels all of the time unless I'm turning a corner.

basically how a Detroit works is like a wrachet wrench so it allows one tire to spin faster than the other but doesn't allow one to spin slower than is being driving by drive shaft, so realy the way you put it was more correct than how i did, i was more thinking of when your turning a corner the inside tire (the tire with the most resistance receives the power as the other sorta freewheels.)

a open diff will deliver equal power to both rear wheels untill one starts to spin or loose traction then the power will follow the path of least resistance.
