Have some questions. I have a 2001 psd 6spd 6 in lift 35s dp tuner, 6637, zoodad, CCV mod, 5 in exhaust, south bend clutch. Looking for more power but the truck has 155,000. Should I get rid of it and buy one with lower miles or keep it and do it?
I want to see 35 lbs boost or more and some pretty big power gains with reasonable driveability and mileage. Lower egts. What all am I gonna need. Do they make kits for this stuff? Intercooler? oil pump? What else?
How much money am I looking at? 6000? or even more? Thanks
To get all you are asking you will need at least that much. If you are looking for a quick 50-60 more HP with out going Big Oil,Turbo,Head Studs and a lot more you could put in some Single Shot injectors for around $1600 and with all that you already have it would run good. I am not sure what tunes you have on your DP but if you have 120 it should rock.
My truck has that many miles with the Swamps Single Shots with about the same mods and it will roast the back tires.
I am sure some with more know how than me will chime in.
Also if you do put in SS injector you will need to get the DP reburnt.
You already have a truck with low miles. I've got over 268k on mine, and there are several here with more miles than I have.
As far as power gains, first make sure you have forged rods and not the PMR's. What turbo are you running? You didn't make mention of that in your to do list. You also left out injectors as Eddie pointed out. Don't forget some live tuning if you want the most out of it after you do the additional mods. I also wouldn't focus too much on boost pressure as you can get more air flow with lower boost by changing the turbo.
The only other thing I have to add is possibly considering a gear change to compensate for the 35's.
so you have 6000$ to spend? well
1 Regulated Return 600$
2 injectors 1500-2000$
3 turbo upgrade 1500-2400
4 reburning DP - 200+
5 you going to need clutch cause your stock one will smoke very fast. 1000? SBC( south band Clutch)
thats your money, depending which price you go with you going to have 360-480RWH.
ad thats all hoping you have Forged rods not PMR's...
How do I find out if I have the PMRs? Is this even worth it? I really want to buy a 6.0 for the looks of the truck and the sound. It would be a newer one prob 2006. What If i did that? Can I do the things above without upgrading any oil stuff?
What kind of safe power can I get with a 6.0? And do I need to stud the heads on the 7.3 with turbo injectors dp reburn etc? Keep in mind I dont know much and I dont know what PMR stands for? Different rods I know i guess not as strong. Its an 01
IM really wanting a 4 door with an automatic anyway. I dont know what I will end up doing. Im sure Id be unhappy either way I go. I have a lot of money in her now. Dont wanna go even more overboard an still be dissapointed. Wont buy a cummins though.
Build dates after 10/16/2000 supposedly have the PMR's (powdered metal rods) as opposed to the forged rods (stronger). That's the engine build date not the truck. You can find out for sure like this 7.3 Inspection Hole for Powdered Metal Rod Determination
If you get a 6.0 you'll need to pay attention to the EGR, and if you want to add any mods, you probably need to plan on pulling the heads and installing APR headstuds. The 6.0 bolts used on the heads tend to stretch and ruin head gaskets.
