I put a Garmin 660 in the cubby and I think it works great! I took the suction cup mount and removed the suction cup and bolted it to the back of the cubby. I was worried about signal reception but there is no problem (full strength through the dash) and I don't need an external antennae. I can close the cubby and you don't even know it's there, good security benefit. Here are a few pics
Thats a good idea, My cubby is pretty much useless because I mounted the Air Ride rear bag guages to it. Plus with the console in there its kinda tight. Thanks for all the compliments I like it too.
Will the factory Navigation ubit fit right into the factory opening on the 06 SD, also what wiring needs to be done, external antenna, or anything else that may be needed. Have you done this mod or thinking about doing it.
I posted on this a while ago but no replies. Lets see what you got.

Plug and Play, if it is programmed correctly. Cost $500 for a brand new unit with latest NAV DVD and factory GPS antenna. I love mine and added the 2008 Super Duty Audiophile Subwoofer at the same time, kicks butt!
so the factory nav. Is also a dvd player. Dose it have a way to connect sirius to it, or will I have to still use the external one.
dose the nav work as good as say a aftermaket like tom tom or garmin
Not it is not a DVD player, although it can control the rear factory DVD system if installed. It can be modified to display DVDs and rear cams.
It is completely compatible with the Ford Sirius systems like most of the newer systems and gives you full control and display of the sirius channels, info, etc. Connector for the Sirius module is identical to other Ford Stereos.
In some ways it works better than the Garmin systems I own (and have owned) as an on-road navigation system. It does have less bells and whistles, but most are not really neccesary for automotive Navigation. One example is no elevation display, which is neat to have but not really necessary for on road naviagation.
It is handy that it mutes just the music of the front speakers of the factory stereo when giving voice prompts thru the stereo. This was always a problem for me with external systems, sometimes my stereo is loud and I didn't hear the Garmin.
I do like the fact that I can simply type in a business phone number and it finds the business and routes me to it and/or adds it to my address book with one key press. The Garmins I have don't do that. There are other similar things I like too.
Since I installed it my Garmins have been gathering dust.. except the one on my ATV, and it gathers mud :-)
Where did you get yours and who programed it for you. Is it a 6 disc in dash or single CD. Was the audiophyle sub a plug and play also.
Thanks,
Sarge
Hi Sarge,
Sent you an e-mail with contact info for programmer and where to purchase.
Yes it is a 6-disc CD.
Sub is not plug and play since Super Dutys prior to 08 are not pre-wired for subs. I made my own harness using a stereo connector cut from an F-150 at the junk yard. The connector for the sub itself is identical to the Power mirrror connectors found on all Super Dutys prior to 08 so those are easy to find at the junk yard too. All you have to do is rearrange a few pins which is super easy.
