What the heck

What the heck is going on with my excursion? The abs light goes on and off, It will disable the cruise control, The rig shudders, like it's missing, and when I first turn the key to the on position the HCU makes a swoosh sound. Also when the abs light comes on the speedo goes nuts. I have checked everything I've read about here The scanner showed no codes, The sensors for abs wheel speed and the tranny sensors all show normal. I've pulled apart the steering column and found no bad chaffing of the wires. I've cleaned everything. Any answers?

Some info on your Ex would go a looooonnnnng way towards getting helpful info to answer / diagnose your problem. What year? 2 x 4 or 4 x 4? 5.4 V8? 6.8 V10? 7.3L PSD?

A second plan of attack now might be letting the Ford dealership hook it up to their computer and read the codes. I suspect it will
turn out to be something very simple. But their parts prices and labor rates sorta kill the "simple" word above unfortunately.

what the heck

well the excursion is a 2002 2wd V-10 limited ultimate. I will probably have to take it to ford. I talked to my brother who works at a ford shop, and he said it's a weird combination of things going south and it would require some in depth testing. I didn't like that answer.

Any common traits? My cluster was going nuts and it turned out to be a leak in the windsheild letting water drip onto the fuses and GEM causing it to short out and go crazy. Fixed leak, solved problem. Have you checked all your electrical connections to the transmission? Missing a seal there may have the same effect...

well I haven't checked the trans sensors physically but the scanner says their working. I just finally pulled a code C1096 which requires the abs pump motor to be pulled to check the harness. Code is abs pump motor circuit open. The harness is below the pump ,and no way to get to it without pulling the whole pump and all the brake lines just to do the checks. Looks like I will need to bring it to ford.

WIth all these random codes suddenly appearing, its not gonna be a buncha bad sensors, or even one bad sensor from all the stuff yoru describing as spazing out. Sounds like one of the computers that controls all those functions, or is tied into them somehow is going bad for some reason. Isnt there a main computer for the chassis/body whateever you want to clal it, on these trucks? I suspect problems with that.

Yes there is. Something to look into, but the body ECU is generally for seats, windows, doors, and that type of stuff. I'm not ruling anything out though, so thanks for the help. It's strange I didn't get this code until this morning. I've been testing it the same way now for three days and this is the first time c1096 appeared.

When thing go crazy! !

Sounds like you have lost a ground.

Try a good solid ground from the motor to the frame, make sure you get a good ground on the frame.

HINT:

You should be able to do this with a set of booster cables for the check.

Thanks for that . I will try it tomorrow. I don't see how the motor can be open, when I can make it run with the scanner. This rig does have some issues. Today I've been going over the electrical and found a couple of burnt wires coming off the Vcr. I've got a whole bunch of wires everywhere. there was an inferred remote, a power booster to the monitor. Im trying to eliminate electrical issues to see if I can find the problem. I heard RF noise could mess with the abs motor. Thanks for the info.

I tried that this morning. No Joy. I did find the 60 amp fuse in the cab fuse box was good but when the X was running there wasn't any voltage between the fuse, even when you applied the brakes, so either the pump or module, ground, or broke wire must be the cause, just cant find it yet. I'm going to pull everything apart again and try and get the module connector off to have a look see.

Before you keep digging deeper into this, what shape are your battery and alternator in? I know a low battery can cause all kinds of problems.

I've gotten a bad brand new battery, I would check voltage at the battery under load since its easy and free (assuming you have a multimeter)

Yeah I checked all that, the battery is good and the alternator is cranking out 13.8-14.1 vdc. The ex is also running like crap until you step on it, and milage is going way down. Cant afford to bring it ford yet.
