I bought a 77 ford 4x4 with 14/35 15's when i drove home thfront end has a bad shimmy so i checked the suspension everything seemed allright except for radius arm could this cause a shimmy or should i have the tires balanced first?

Did the shimmy continue the entire way home or did it smooth out after a few miles? Those are probably bias-ply tires on that thing and they tend to get flat spots in them when the sit. These normally work themselves out after a few road miles. If the truck sat fore a long time they might have permanant flat sopts in them or may take a long time to work them out. Try jacking up the truck and rotating the tire by hand. If there is a bad flat spot on the tires you should be able to see it w/ your eye as you rotate the tire, it'll look like it's wobbling alittle. If you had a spare set of tires you could bolt on and drive on this would tell you real quick if the problem is in the tires or the drivetrain.
