Transmission Noise
I have a new to me 01 F150 5.4L 2wd with auto transmission 85k miles. On moderate to hard acceleration, I notice a whine or whirl sound seems to keep pace with the transmission speed. Almost sounds like a turbo whine. It stops when I let up on the accelerator. Had the dealer I bought it from do a look prior to buying found nothing and got an additional warranty thrown in. It shifts fine. Had the heavy load in the back last week and didn't notice any noises but didn't do any hard accelerations.

I was incorrect
Talk about a bonehead first post. I haven't driven it to much to experiment, but while driving yesterday I realized that it is not the transmission. While coasting I put it neutral and revved the engine and can still hear it. I can hear it in park also. It sound like it might be inside under the dash center or right of center almost like an air/ vacuum leak? It does respond to engine speed but not directly.
