My ex sometimes just stops.

Hi. I have a 2001 7.3 Psd ex. Lately it sometimes just stops?! No real pattern to when it happens... when i'm driving normaly it registers as a "hickup", but when the engine is idling, i'm parking or reversing i.e low revs, it stops completly.

Anyone else had this happen? Any suggestions to what might cause this?

The cam sensor is known for going bad on those engines, but usually when it dies, it stays dead.

I actually have a CPS ready in the truck for this very reason. But as you said, i thought when the cps goes, the engine is dead..

naw not so My 2001 7.3 would die then restart it all depends on how bad the cps is. I drove it for months untill this forum helped me trace it down. swap it out and I'll bet it's fixed. save the old one in case that is not the problem but it only takes a few minutes to change, did mine in the sand on the beach it was actually quite comfortable that way.

Well, i have neither sand or a beach to do it on

i dont think that its just the diesels. my 01 v10 will stall out when i am backing up into the driveway and bump the throttle and then let go. then out of the blue, it just instantly stalls right out. it then will start right back up and wont do it again for many months. im thinkin that its not the engines, its the transmissions on our trucks. maybe the converter is locking up and stalling the engine????
