Well, today I sold Hoss, (86 F-250HD 4x4). I had to do it guys. When my wife told me she was pregnant last March, I thought I could make the truck work. But when it broke down on us back in June, I realized that I was sinking money into a vehicle that wouldn't fit our growing family.
So I bought an 88 Suburban, (which is freakin' awesome I might add), and put a "For Sale" sign in the windshield of Hoss and waited, and waited, and.......waited. But today, a guy and his wife came by the house and said he wanted to buy it. I even got the $1200 I was asking for it.
My wife is a little sad, but I'm not. Hoss left me stranded too many times on the side of the road to be sad now. So the money will go to getting us a little more out of debt before my daughter gets here next month and the real debt starts.
You had to do what you had too for your Family. I hopee you will continue to stay and post. Subs are good vehicles I had 2 and a Expedition which I liked Best. Stick around.
I know that feeling. The more a vehicle pisses me off, the easier it is to see it leave. Good luck with your family, I just started mine a year ago so I know it will be tough at times.
I have to agree it does get harder raising a family,But it is well worth it after 22 years I have been working on my project for over a year and hope to start driving my truck then I can start on the body work.
I hope you will continue to stay and post. Stick around.
FTE is my home away from home. So even though I haven't been driving Hoss since June, I've been lurking. Too many good people on this site to just up and say "goodbye".
Man I was looking forward to that stright 6 being put in that truck and hearing how it did. I may have to do it now. My 460 is bleeding me dry. I have to say it is dependable though. But the 8mph stinks. Cant beleive you went over to the other side. Hope all goes well with the family.
I've always liked Chevy's and Ford's even though traditionally Chevy's haven't always liked me. But I was looking for a family friendly vehicle that was easy to work on and fit the growing family. Around here a Bronco is uber hard to find, but a Suburban is easy to get.
And I think $1500 for a 1 owner GMC Suburban with 109,000 miles on it was a great deal. It's got the TBI 350 and plenty of power. My wife and I went to Butte which is 230 miles west of here and I got 15mpg's with it! So I'm really happy right now.
Sorry you had to get rid of your toy ... But glad you got something for the family ...
I too am about ready to get rid of a wallet drain ... My Cherokee ... 19 mpg just won't get it in this day of high fuel prices ... Besides the tranny is slipping and the compression is probably getting weak ... All the doors leak ... The back hatch won't lock ... The list gets longer every month ...
The F250 is gonna stay tho ... A man needs a fullsize truck ... Even if it is only run on weekends for an hour ...

Well, you might be in luck hearing about that swap yet.The guy that wanted to buy the truck backed out of the deal. And as luck would have it, after I put in the Carter electric fuel pump so it would run, I needed a truck to bring home a bunch of baby stuff reminding me how handy a truck really is. So, I might as well keep it since I can't sell it and use it as a hunting, mudding, hauling truck.
Yeah, Hoss has been paid off for about 4 years now and I'm just not going to get what it's really worth IMO. If I sold it for $1200, I'm still not covering the $1800 I spent rebuilding the engine 3 years ago.
So the hell with it, it's gonna be my "fun" truck and parts hauler for my Pontiac and Suburban.
