Where is a good place to mount lights? I though about getting a roof mount bar and placing several lights there myself. I want to get into some off-roading, but am currently building up my truck. Also, does anyone have any recommendations for a push bar or pre-runner for a 2000 Ranger 4x4? I don't really care for the wrap around grill guards, and I want something that is fairly solid for off-roading. A whole bumper replacement would be nice too, since I've noticed how thin the metal is on my stock bumper.
if you will off-road thru forests then that light bar on the roof may get hung up in tree branches.
we have a setina police/mil push bar on our 96 bronco and the lights fit on an inside cross bar (1/8th steel angle) between the 2 extended verical push bars.
don't know if setina makes them for your ranger though:

I have two sets of Hella's 550FF mounted on the front of my ARB bumper and love them there. I also have two of the larger 220's mounted above on a Carr light bar. I do not use these very much due to the fact when on there are two very annoying beams of light in my line of sight except on the clearest of nights. I installed them to balance out the light bar which was installed to mount antennas on. Put them on the bumper and use 100 watt wide angle flood lights. Pencil beam lights bounce around too much for off road four wheeling but the wide angle ones will light up the sides better for cornering.
depending on what kind of wheeling you plan to do, a light bar in the bed is a good way to go. mounting 2 100w. will help. also for backing up i have found that mounting 1 55w. tractor light in the rear bummper works great. but hook it to a toggle switch so you dont blind people in town. you also should not mount the light under the bummper as it can be busted upo easily. i found that on out the hard way.
i have smitty-built double single rollbars in my 89 ranger 4x4 with 4 100watt canyon crawler lights on top. the bars were $345 and the lights were like $30 each. i got them at mudder truckers in milford ohio (www.muddertruckers.com) but the bars only have two brackets for lights so i had to make a bar to sit ontop of the two brackets to hold all four lights. i used a piece of aluminum cause its lightweight and wont rust, but on the down side they bounc around alot. and i also have each light on its own switch, alot easier to wire up that way. well if u want anymore info about them jsut let me know.
