6spd tranny rebuild

02 f350 6spd manual
i suspect i have some input shaft bearing problems. ( a grinding rubbing sound and feel, i can hear it best on decel but i can still feel it throughout the speed range. goes away in neutral or when the clutch pedal is depressed. it shifts good and has no problem going into gear, i would eliminate any major pilot bearing issues.) does anybody have the rebuild manual.
and are there any upgrades for the trans.

i seen diesel site has some input shaft sleeves, but as i said i believe bearings may be getting torn up. i'm hoping to drain the fluid tommorow for an inspection

Are you sure its not the throw out bearing, if it is in need of a rebuild there are many companies out there who offer all parts you need a quick google search and I pulled about 4 of them. The big difference between this manual is the 3 piece case in which all detents and springs are in the middle plate and the main shaft and counter shaft are held into it also. It is a bit different but easy if you follow this manual.
2002 F-Super Duty 250-550/Excursion Workshop Manual

Hope this helps.

i've rebuilt lots of transmissions, always nice to have specs and what not, if it where the throwout i would expect to hear it in neutral with clutch engaged.

Go to the very top of this page and there is a button called Recalls/TSB's. You can look them up yourself here at FTE. If you want an Oasis, visit the 6.0 diesel section. There is a sticky (thread always located at the top) that is for oasis requests. Give them the info they request, and you'll get a copy of the oasis.

Here's a link to some more info on the ZF-6. If you're input shaft is loose, make sure you check into a new kevlar pilot bushing when you put things back together. I believe Southbend and Luk offer them.

the clutch release and throw out are the same bearing I mentioned it earlier due to the fact that I have had the same issue before and you will not hear it with the clutch depressed.

If you've ever seen the throw out bearing in these monster trannys, you'll wonder why they don't fail more often. The one in my 64 3 speed was much more stout.

when I saw that little cheap looking plastic thing I was like no way man (same thought I had when I saw the "fork"). I love my stroke but IMO just another way ford ruined a good product with lack luster parts i.e. the awesome CPS.

I'm with you, except I can't tell squat by looking at the CPS, but crawl under the truck and you say, look at the size of that tranny. That's built Ford tough. Then look at the throw out bearing and you want to ask, who put honda parts in here?

My clutch issues at 212k miles were actually throw out bearing related. After seeing the part, I was surprised it didn't show up at 21k miles.

Of course it did last me 212k miles, so I guess I can't complain too loudly.

The CPS is notorious for going out there is a blue unit from IH and a black unit. If you have or plan on getting a DP tuner use the black one as there has been problems with using the blue unit. You can get the black unit from DPs website. As for the bearing I have yet to find a upgraded one but I will say stay away from the Valair bearing that comes with their clutch kit. The retaing pins that hold them in place on the clutch fork are sub par. Best I have found yet is the napa replacement unit.
