I can float the gears both up and down in my 01. You must not be holding your butt checks just right. I have got it down to the point that If I want, I can bark the tires on the upshift.

Those are my favorite also. they tilt forward, back and side to side. So essentially you can go 4wheelin' or off camber and not worry about spillage.
