my grandpa had a jeep pickup in the 40's and 50's he and my dad would take it every where. he drove it like he rode a horse. it had a pto winch on the front and they carried some axle shafts and a big *** hammer where ever they went and if they got into a draw where they needed to get out and couldent get traction they would pound the shafts into the ground and winch them selves up. it may take 2-4 trips of winching and running up the hill to get out but they never got stuck lol

Was it a *****'s Overland?
That was my first rig, '52 1-ton 4wd.
Bought it from my other Grandpa for 357 bucks and my Dad and I rebuilt it. I sold it when I was in college and then bought it back for A LOT les because the guy had really trashed it. It's now a "someday" project. I'd like to find an '85 Toyota 4wd turbo diesel and swap all of the drivetrain into the *****'s.

The ARP studs are a much higher grade metal, and are studs instead of bolts.
Studs and milling the pistons down are two of the mods I did to run high boost.

After seeing what my head gaskets looked like when I took them out, anything over 12 PSI is high boost on a 6.9 engine.
I am running twice that much now.
Boise has really grown since the 70s, but the folks are still really nice and so is the scenery. I moved there a couple of years ago.

I meant to say studs. Did you just have a machine shop grind off .010" from your pistons?

The only thing that would make it better is if it came in a crewcab. I really like the Gen 1 club cabs... Those would be sweet as a crewcab as well.

I had a machine shop mill the pistons 20 thou, that drops the base compression ratio to 20.25 to 1 with the 20 over bore on the cylinders.

ARP head studs.
Modified 7.3 turbo IP
DPS stage 1 injectors
ATS turbo
Ram air to feed the turbo
Straight 3" exhaust with twin 3" stacks

I am running boost numbers in the mid 20's.

I think I've seen pics of your motor. It's red and silver and you have over $6k into it or so. Have you seen these:
ShopDiesel.com - Performance Diesel Parts, Accessories and Exhaust - FORD/DODGE/GM/CHEVY/GMC
Remanufactured Diesel Engines For Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Caterpillar & Cummins

They have an entire long block reman and engineered for the turbo system they have installed. I'm not sure if they're anywhere near the setup you're running, but it seems like it's all done for a bit under $6k after your core charge.

You see that name on the air cleaner?

That same name is on this page.
ShopDiesel.com - Performance Diesel Parts, Accessories and Exhaust - FORD/DODGE/GM/CHEVY/GMC

Three reman engines in 28,000 miles. (two with cracked blocks, one with a cracked crank)
Almost three months of haggling to get a buyout when they shipped me the fourth engine under warranty, which I refused to install in my truck.
I tore it down while it was still on the shipping pallet, sleeves were dropped below the block deck, bolts were striped out and the head bolts were all loose.

The two year warranty is a bit misleading.
One year unlimited mileage on the complete engine.
Second year only covers the long block, fuel injection and turbo not covered.
I was 1/2 way through the second tear when the third one let loose.
I wound up with a fuel system and turbo system, the buyout was for the long block only.
The only parts I am still running is the air cleaner housing and the turbo brackets and pipes.
Injectors were leaking, IP died and the turbo was getting lots of play in the shaft.
Those items had less that 20,000 miles on them when they died, and that was part of the reason my rebuild was 4000 dollars for parts, new IP, new injectors and a new turbo.

PS Dealers Diesel stopped doing business four years ago, they are called Reviva now.

Scrap is 3 dollars a hundred, 1100/100*3= 33 dollars

I'll give you 20 dollars for one of them.

I have 4000 dollars in parts and machine work, I did all the labor myself.
I am running 3 times stock boost and have twice as many miles on the one I built as I got out of three of those.

Yes this is my baby.
