400 Thermostat

What t-stat should be in a 79 400? I have a 190 in my 302 wondering if it is good for the 400 also? The one in my 400 right now is stuck open and it takes forever for it to get warm enough to have heat.

It does happen. Try to stick between 190 and 195. The cooler an engine runs, the harder it is on your bearings. 190-195 is the ideal operating range. I've heard of thermostats as low as 165 which I do not recommend at all.

the Tstat for the 351M/400 and the 302 are different, they are not interchangeable at all.

Robert Shaw 33-192, fixed my issues. The usual over the counter parts store issue t-stats are not made to work in the 335 series Fords.

Robert shaw type all the way. They flow more are better built (different style) and if they do fail they will probably fail open instead of closed. I never seen one fail. I like 192 winter and 185 summer.
