39 In. Mickeys vs. Others

I have a 2001 Ford SUperduty and currently have 39x18in. Mickey Thompsons on it and am looking to go with a different tire. I would like if anyone has opinions about a different tire. The Mickeys are ok, but they pull all over the road due to the width and being bias ply. I would like to stay with a 38 or 39 in. tire (37in. I think would be too small for my 12in. lift?), I'd also like to go with a radial (so the truck doesn't pull as much), and I'd like to go a little narrower (to give me a little more power and so there isn't so much "tire bounce"). Thanks all.

First question, do you have steering stablizers. With that much lift you should. Suggestions about tires, here we go, and I have had all these tires I'm going to list. First, Super Swamper Boggers. Love them to death, when you hit the gas with these things watch out.....mud fliin' and squirrls dyin' they will dig into pretty much everything. However they wear like a mickey, real quick, and don't balance very well. Second, Super Swamper TSL/SX. Great tire, tons of traction until they start to wear, rotate often, and I mean often. They ride pretty good, but again hard to balance. And they do make a Radial. Third, Demon Ground Hawgs, I would suggest these tires the most to you. They are not to aggessive, Look really cool, are not too expensive, and wear like iron, plan on having these for a while. And I remember they rode pretty well. Hope that helps

Actually I still have my boggers on my truck, I think they are the quietest of the bunch except for the SSR. No lie. By far the loudest was the Ground Hawgs. Hard compound, and pretty agressive. Next would be the TSL/SX. For some reason they wore funny on me and made big time noise. The SSR's were the quietest, but I got rid of them because they really didn't ride to much better and as far as I'm concerned, mud tires are supposed to ride like mud tires. Plus they look like sissy tires, kinda like the thornbird. Both those tires are for weines who want to drive on the street all the time, but look like they go mudding. And I've seen them in the bog. THEY SUCK! But this is all just my opinion, and mine only. Remember if you don't pick something you like just because someone said something dirogitory about it, you'll never know, and you won't be happy. Hope this makes it all clear as mud.

wut size are you running, and how would u compare the hawgs, tsl's and the boggers in the mud, im thinking of either 38 ground hawgs or the new 37 bogger, and i like a loud tire (like my buckshots)

i think your wrong about the boggers there the lodest ive ran pretty well everything from buck shoot to boggers and they were the loudest of them all. Mickey t's have the longest wear time compared to the others. the only way the other guy could run radials if he stays with 36's other wise the rest are bias.

i agree with the boggers being the loudest, i mean look at the tread, and i have heard boggers....they are loud and have a unigue sound, compared to mickeys, ive never heard ground hawgs or tsl's though

Jason, you made a very good point about the radials only going to 36s. I totally forgot. As far as being wrong about which is louder, or wears faster? Remember, it was just my opinion. I may run mine on completely different terrain than you. More road time vs. trail time or vice versa. I was just telling him how the performed for me. I didn't mean to sound like the all knowing or anything, sorry man.

85351ho, I'm running 35s on 16.5x12 right now. I agree, I like them loud. You ask how they perform in the mud compared to each other. Here how they did for me. The best by far is the bogger for me. They will dig straight to china if you let them, and they are great on the rocks, but rocks have chewed my blades all to hell on them. The TSL/SX being next on my list untill they were over half worn. I didn't rotate them enough, and they wore real funny and wouldn't bite anymore. And I really didn't have the powersteering to really use the side biters. The ground hawgs come in third, only because when I had them I lived in New Mexico, and there wasn't much mud to be had. And rock crawling hadn't occured to me yet. But what mud I did have them in, I chewed through like a champ. But nothing very deep.

Hope all these different views help in your tire selection man, good luck.

Thanks for the info. I do have a stearing stabalizer. I would like a tire that has a little less bounce and one that doesn't grab every little grouve in the road. I've heard two extremes about Super Swamper Radials... they are great or they suck. How does the Ground Hog run on the road? Recommend over Super Swamper Radial? Thanks again.

One more thing... I saw that Thy have a Radial Ground Hawg tire now (38/15.5-16.5) Did you have the Bias Ply or Radial and what would you think about the radial vs. Super Swamper Radial?

ChadRock,

I had the bias ply, and I would recomend them over the SSR. But that's just me. As for the bouncing, I found running about 17lbs. of air in them kept them from bouncing too much. But any time you throw some serious rubber like 38s at the ground your gonna get some bounce. 85351ho, I have a 77 F250 crewcab short bed 4x4. See ya guys.

OK. So I have narrowed the tire to either the Super Swamper TSL Radial (not SSR) or the Ground Hawg Radial. Both tires are 38/15.5-16.5 I don't know which to go with??? I've heard good and bad with swampers, but haven't heard anything about radial Ground Hawgs. Can you guys help? Thanks
