First off, Welcome!
My truck had a chatter if i forced it into t/c lock mode at idle in park or N. It otherwise has gotten quiet. There are 4 things i can think of.
1) Torque converter bolts loose
2) Internal torque converter damage
3) 2001 trans with noisey converter ("Normal" just noisy)
4) Flywheel cracked
Pull the inspection plate and check it out. Does it chatter under load, at idle?

good point. If it is a manual, they are known to have gear rollover noises at low speeds in 1 and 2 with the 6 spd. The ZF-5 (5 spd manual) had gear rollover in 1st. The ZF5 I had bad gear rollover in 1st but still runs with over 240,000 on it...
