My Ranger (2003 4.0L V-6 4X4 96,000 mi) works just fine but I have this problem with my Ford Windstar (1999 3.8L V-6 96,000 mi) as the tail lights, brake lights, and back-up lights do not work properly. I have been informed, following a $300.00 labor tab for investigating the problem, that there is an REM (Rear Electronic Module) included as part of the lighting and power management system that is bad and will cost $438.00 parts/$170.00 labor to replace. This is what is standing between me and my vehicle inspection so right now my Windstar has a new place - parked. I cannot just go to a salvage yard and find another REM as these have to be "PROGRAMMED" before they will function so I am going to try some wire splicing and bi-passing tonight and this week-end.
I do not have a wiring diagram. This Rear Electronic Module is found at the rear passenger side of the interior just inside the tailgate behind the tire jack mount.
I would love to see the wiring diagram but have no idea where to find one.
I see the REM on the wiring diagram but it looks like its just for the back up lights. It only shows 4 wires coming out of it. TAN/ORG and PNK/LT BLU going to the PCM and WHT/YEL going to the right reversing light and a DRK GRN/ORG going to the left reversing light. I would post this diagram but I have no idea how. It's a pdf. Hope that helps a little.
I found and uncovered the REM last night and there are a hundred wires connected, mostly in gang-plugs. I am going to try to splice the bad tail light wire (driver side) with the good tail light wire (passenger side) tonight (after I disconnect the battery).

So it takes a computer & an electronic module to light up a couple of bulbs? Go figure.

Seems like that should work & it sure beats spending 400 bucks for a new REM.
