no muffler...yes or no?

i have a 04 6.0L with bullydog, volant intake, MBRP down pipe, MBRP cat-delete pipe, and a Borla muffler. would i gain any fuel mileage or power by removing the muffler. or would i be doing more harm than good?

In my knowledge you don't gain power or fuel mileage with exhaust mod on the 6.0 diesel, but you definitely lower your EGT, and if you have a nice full system, you get an awesome tone out of your truck. In the other hand without muffler you could end up "too loud", and IMO that does not sound good....

my truck has a full 4" turbo back MBRP exhaust without a cat but with the MBRP "high flow" muffler. if sounds really good to me and still loud when i get on it. turbo sounds nice too w/o the cat!

im not worried about being too loud. it has an awsome tone right now. after about 2500rpm it sounds very similar to a quite 4.6L cobra. i love it but i want it just a lil bit louder without doing any harm.

I would run the muffler. From what I know you do need some backpressure for the VNT turbo, you need the pressure difference between the exhaust side and the intake to flow the exhaust into the ERG system. It is also possible that you might or might not under/over speed your turbo.

Correct me if im wrong.

Tossed the muffler on my 4" system, cat is still on... not loud until you get on it! Highly recommend!

You do NOT need "back pressure". If you like it loud, do what I did....straightpipe it! Lost about 100 degrees on EGT!

You're wrong

The pressure drop across the turbo is what makes it spin, more pressure drop means more boost. You won't over speed your turbo as the boost level you reach limits that, but you may build SLIGHTLY more boost SLIGHTLY faster. Very little impact on the EGR system, if any, since back pressure for the EGR is provided by the turbo.

loud, illegal if your truck came with a cat and you take your cat off, and some people say the exhaust tone may have a drone on some highway speeds.

i love my exhaust but i do have a MBRP 4" muffler and don't have any drone that i can notice from inside the cab.

Mines got both deleted and its actually pretty mild. The turbo screams all the time but its the only thing I can hear until about 2K. Its just as quiet as with the cat and muffler on below that.
Mines got the stock pipe size right now though so I don't know if that would make it quieter.
I'm planning 4 inch soon with a single stack, but i'm putting a muffler on then.

OK, so what are peoples opinions of a 3.5" system (from turbo) with just the cat in it, no muffler. Would it sound acceptably legal? Or am I going to need a muffler too?
