Fuel Mileage

Hey guys, i'm just deciding whether or not to get the 6.0L or a 7.3L diesel. What do you guys get on average fuel fuel mileage? (miles per gallon highway) Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have made some mods and drive to get the best mileage I can. I get in the high 19's to 20's. The best I've ever got was 20.5 corrected MPG. The correction is due to my odometer reading 2% low since I went up a size with the tires.

The 6.0 seems to have a higher variability if FE than the 7.3. My truck is a 6 spd 2wd and I am definately on the high side for 6.0s. I keep a spreadsheet of all my fuel used in my gallery.

I've had two 6.0's (03 SRW & 06 DRW) with about 150,000 miles combined. My mileage has generally been 18-19 hwy and 14-16 city. Fairly decent mpg IMO considering the weight of the vehicle... and my right foot isn't light either

Generally, a 7.3 will get better mileage then a 6 liter. Not as much power in a 7.3 as a 6 liter.

I consistently get 17-19 hwy (70-75mph) and 14-15 city with my 05 PSD. Towing I get 11mpg (towing 7k lb trailer at 70-75mph. Considering the speeds I drive, I'm okay with that. With our old 7.3L PSD, I had to slow down to 60mph to get that kind of mileage. Maybe mine is an odd case, but I've had much better success with my 6L than I did with my 7.3L. Even in reliability, my 6L has been 10x more reliable than the 7.3L was!

Oh yeah, my tires are 275/65R20 which is a 34.1" tire on my 05 truck. When I was running stock (265/70R17), I got as high as 21mpg on long road trips.
