I just priced, via the Ford website, an 09' Flareside FX4 4WD. MORE standard equipment like 6-speed/37 gallon tank. The price is the SAME as an 08'. The only difference is the $38,500 08' can be had for $29,500 now. The 09' out-the-door-price will be much higher I'm sure.
No kidding. I really dont know how folks afford brand new trucks, especially the loaded ones. I bought my 99 used and probably my next truck will be used as well. Talking to my dad, the last ford he bought new was his '93 I think it was, first year they had the new look, and it was like $14,900 thats 4x4, cloth bench, and 8' bed no other options (well cant remember it might have had LS). And thats back when you could still get a 4.9L and a stick... two things I'd take over todays choice. Well the 4.9L never did give him very good mpg though. Looks like the closest you can get it for now is $26,500.
Keep in mind all the new 09 bugs that go along with the new model...are you ready for that?
I would wait for the 09's to get figured out a bit.
The only real difference between the 08 and 09 trucks are engine/tranny combos. I fail to see where any bugs would be outside of that. Besides.... isnt that the same 6 speed that has been in the Expy for a few years?

ya unfortunately those days are over...at least for now
I was attempting to "build' a couple diffferent F-150s on the Ford site with just the options I want. In order to get the basic sonar reverse sensors, you have to order the tow package and rearview camera (who needs both?), you can't get a 6-disc CD player w/o it being part of a luxury package, redundant controls w/o with Sync, etc. etc. etc. I would rather stay with my paid-for '03 than have to buy a whole raft of extra cost fluff I don't want or probably won't use.
Well I went ahead out of curiosity and built an F150, since I will probably be replacing my pickup in the next year or so.
Seems that the bundle problem more pertains to those who want some of the options, since I want a relatively basic truck it doesnt look like I really have to take any unwanted options. What I want: still deciding between scab and screw, either 6' or 8', 4x4, AC, cruise. All the other options I want I'll add aftermarket. So...
Example Vehicle 1
F150 Scab XL 4x4 8' XL Plus pkg = $32,825 ouch...
Not really forced to take anything I do not want except things that you have no choice in 150's anymore: auto tranny, auto hubs, IFS.
Example Vehicle 2
F150 Screw XL 4x4 6.5' XL plus pkg = $33,735 and I am forced to go with a 4.6 and only the 6' box.
I dont see any rebates on the F150
Now the other option... F250:
Example Vehicle 3
F250 Scab XL 4x4 8', XL Plus pkg, opt clotch 60/40/60= $31,950
After rebates = $28,950
Now the same as above with Screw = $33,600 after rebate = $30,600
To be honest with the F250 at like $4000 cheaper and I get the stick shift I want and full manual hubs, solid axles, and a larger more capable truck... its like a no brainer. Not impressed with the price tags on the F150 anymore, sorry Ford.

Sigh. Other than the new frame, new engines, new transmission, new safety canopy, completely new bodywork except for the supercab door skins, new interior, new integrated electronics ... yeah, they're pretty much the same. Some folks just aren't paying attention.
Oh, yeah, completely new quality control measures in several major programs, one of which I happen to know a lot about. If you've been paying attention to how radically Ford's warranty costs have dropped since those programs were instituted, you wouldn't be as worried about new model bugs.

Not to be a smart a$$, but thier warranty costs needed to drop and need to drop more. And, they need to get on the ball and institute a more comprehensive or simply longer power train warranty to get in line with GM and Dodge. I would tell any FOMOCO decision maker to put your money where your mouth is. If it is the best product, then don't be afraid to stand behind it.
I've built a couple on line as well, not happy with the bundling of options. I'd take a basic Scab or Screw XLT 4x4 with LS axles and be happy as hell.

I went on line and built a basic 2009 F-150 XLT Screw 4x4 with 3.73 LS axles which required the 5.4l upgrade and I went and built a 2009 SD XLT 4x4 Screw with 5.4L, LS 3.73 axles and XLT convenience package and the SD came in at 3k higher than the F-150. I'd take the SD in a minute!

I built a 2009 Lariat, and the price was roughly $1500.00 more than my 2008. What gives? I thought the 2009's we're supposed to be cheaper? (I'm not complaining now)
