A great man. Unfortunately I've only been able to afford one of his products....The Texas Chili Mix. Used to sell it at the Safeway, back in the '80's. Tried it a couple of times. Good stuff, very hot, like his cars.
Not a chili man, what kinda leader do we have here?!
I Used to have a 73 celica I boguht for 50 bucks or so, neat LITTLE car, bought it just to sell that one and I never could figure out the carb on it. Also had a 77 toyota corolla with a little hemi in it, that was a good little car.
Ya got some cool stories Less, and Im also glad theres no max age limit in here

I do. A friend back around the late '60's had , a Cortina....the GT model. Nice handling car, used in a lot of car rallies, had the 4 cylinder Ford Kent engine. It was really a nice car, kind of like the Ford version of the '60's Austin Mini Cooper.
There was even a model souped up by Lotus, that was a real performer, although I never saw one. I think they had a green stripe down the side, on a white body.
They used to have saloon (sedan) car races in England, back then (1960's) and the little Lotus Cortina's did quite well pestering the Jaguar sedans in the corners. They also used to race Ford Mustangs, even a NASCAR Ford Galaxy with the 427 side oiler in the races. They used to cover the races in Road + Track magazine, occasionally, which I read as a teenager. That's where I remember reading about the racing stuff.
They were English Fords and were brought over to Canada to compete with the English Vauxhall Viva's/ Envoy Epics sold in GM dealerships in Canada at the time.
I think the GM dealerships sold the German made Opel as their small imported car in the States.
Back in those days, there were not any domestic made cars smaller than a Corvair, Falcon, Chevy 11 so the domestic manufacturer's just imported their European lines.
Chrysler back then imported their Rootes models...Sunbeams, etc., at first.
I`m a chili-less leader, that`s what........
The Cortina's weren`t bad looking, I thought they looked alot better than the fuggly Opel`s.
Thanks for another great history lesson Les! I knew some of this stuff but over time...........
Im not into those english type cars at all, no matter what kind, I once had a vauxhall and ended up getting rid of it pretty quick. The body was in great shape, someone had transplanted a chevy 4 banger in there, but it wasnt my cup of tea. Sold it and got a datsun from my uncle haha, big move up in the world there!

Those Vauxhall Vivas and Envoy Epic's were not very reliable...in fact in Winnipeg at the time, we use to call them Envoy Epidemics.
