I could have gotten a CC pickemup since I only have two daughters...but we travel many miles each year in the vehicle and 'chatter' would have made my ears bleed...so I knew I needed an SUV.
I have NEVER been a bowtie girl...so the burb was out
I tried the new body style Durango with hemi...well you see my screen name...
The V10 Ex has been an amazing TV for us. We've logged over 18,000 miles in the last 3 summers TOWING on our family vacations...so we've spent some time in her. We've been thru the Rockies twice in those 3 years as well. having one daughter in each row helps me keep my sanity on those 12-14 hour days!
Our next rig will likely be a motor home of some flavor...and most likely a diesel powered rig...but from a SUV tow vehicle standpoint...the Ex IS all that and more.
Plus look at my sig picture...where else can you meet a bunch of truck fanatics and hook up in Gatlinburg for the first ever Excursion rally???
Speaking of rally...stay tuned for the announcement of next years rally spot...coming in the next 3-4 weeks...I'll post something here when it is finalized so folks can get it on their calendars!!!
Drove my 85 Bronco off a 200' cliff and walked away. While waiting for the two semi wreckers to pull it out of the canyon , the question was " did anybody live" I wanted another Ford. Ford didn't make a suburban sized vehical so I had to buy the "burb" ,
but I started hearing rumors. The Montana was coming 97 for sure, nope pontiac made it into a van. don't want a centurion come on Ford. Then it happened The X. I'd wanted one for so long. But I won't buy the first year of anything and kind of put it off, till one day I'm driving down the road and see a 2001 X in a used car lot, got to stop and look.
It was a diesel Limited perfect , 16,300 miles $39,000 , would they take 32? no. could I give 32500 Hell yes!!! Problem is the kids are grown, the dogs are dead, the horses retired. But it's mine!

I bought mine to tow my camper a little bit better than my trusty Expedition could. I actually got it the week of the rally but could not make it there even though I knew it would be a blast. Hopefully it's in Gatlinburg again as I am only a little over an hour away.
I bought mine to haul 6 people comfortably and tow our 24' TT. I also bought it because I always wanted one. The gas crunch made it possible to afford a 5 year old Excursion, that cost $45,000 new, for $14,500 with low miles. I have a 96 F250 Crewcab but it just can not haul 6 people 5000 miles comfortably. It will also pull my horse trailer, 16' utility trailer, & 5'x8' enclosed trailer.
It will only partially hook in. But it is fine for sitting in at a drive in.
I always wanted to fold the middle row down and have my very own "bang bus". Some of you will get this, others that have wives or g/f's keeping you on a short leash may not lol.
I bought my Ex because I was interested in getting an SUV. So I was looking around at all the Suburbans in the area and saw an Excursion. I didn't think I could afford an Ex so I wasn't looking for one till I saw one for sale at a cheap price and knew I had to have it. Even with a year to go making payments on my car, I had to have it.
bought my second PSD excursion after my first was totalled in a garage fire. why another ex? not much else out there. drivers with new tahoes and suburbans still give my EX the look when i pull away from the traffic light and the turbo spools up. i cant believe i actually took a test drive in a Hummer H-3 Alpha. cute, but definitley a toy compared to the EX.
Well several reasons. One I had a chevy s-10 actually two one 1982 and a 2003 both regular cabs. I got real tired of only being able to take one son hunting with me. It's a 75 mile trip to our cabin. No place to store the weapons except inside and they weren't big enough to install a rifle rack due to the headrests. Our Dodge Magnum R/T is big enough but I don't take it of road, and it is the wife's baby. Then I had a accident and screwed my leg up pretty good and couldn't even get into the S-dime, so I just happened to see a dealer add for the 2002 Ex reduced from 14,900 to $7000.00, so I sold my S-10 and bought the Ex . I absolutly love it. I don't care about the milage since I only drive my trucks about 10k a year. I would rather pay more in gas than be in discomfort and paying for gas also. It does have alot of work to be done to it, but it is a beautiful rig. I can't imagine why I didn't buy one before, also this is a great site and I have already used some of the members advice on repairs and they have worked.
Patience...the Rally site will be revealed publically in about 3-4 weeks. As I had promised...those that attended last year got to decide on rally location and then book their sites before going public...
We are just a few weeks away from open forum posting...stay tuned!!!
This one is our second one. I wanted one as soon as they came out but had to wait for a used one. I did a lot of reading on this site and the Diesel Stop to help me go with the PSD. Monsta had a lot of input back then which really helped. We had an AWD Aerostar, which would get about 17 mpg. I felt if the PSD Excusion got the same or better, why not? Plus the room is great. So the Aerostar was totaled by someone else which forced the issue and I found a used 2000 PSD. Had that a year when the extension cord (plugged into the block heater) shorted and burned the front end up and left us looking for our second one. Found our 2002 in Chicago way under book with 26000 miles. Flew out and drove her home. One of my wife's friends has a Hyundai Sante Fe and she asked her about our Excursion and she said it gets the same mileage as your car. Her friend was shocked, plus the room for 3 kids and a golden retriever...You can't go wrong..
We got ours to tow the trailer better than the Expy was (it also had over 110k miles on it). Then, after looking at different options, and listening to the cocky chevy guys, decided to get the biggest and baddest!
I drove the wheels off my 96 explorer, almost literally....I was browsing for a different vehicle, thinking CC SB F350 SRW or F250. I saw the 2002 ex on ebay of all places, about 30 miles away. It was priced right so I bought it, love it and all I can say is it will be the main driver for the next 150-200k miles.
