Question?

Alright guys, I have a Jeep that is fairly well built, but I'm trying to get my dad into wheeling and there is a 77-79 Ford F-150 Ranger, short bed, it has a HP 44 front and the 9" in the rear. My question is what is the motor, tranny, and transfer case. I believe the tranny to be the 435 but have searched and it may be the t-18, the transfer case also looks to be a 205 but I am not sure.

Can anyone tell me or point me in the right direction. I did search. Maybe not the right words but I did search.

Not enough info for anyone to figure out what you have. 77-79 could be any engine from a 300 in-line 6 to a 460 V8. tranny could be either and t-case could be a 205 or a 203(full time) We need more input. Numbers? Descriptions of parts? Photos?

Dude, for something like that, it'd probably be best to take a picture of the engine and tranny and post it. Otherwise, it could be a 300, 302, 351W, 351M, 360, 390, 400, 427/8/9, 460, coupled to a NP 435, T-19, T-18 or it could be something custom or something else along those lines. Not trying to be a smart butt, but after these things have been around for 30+ years, they tend to go through alot of changes. Try to get a pic, someone on here will square you away.

This truck definitely is all stock. It does have lockouts on the front which makes my Xfer case the 205. I didn't wanna pop the hood because the owner wasn't at home at the time and I didn't want him thinking I was screwing his truck up. If I can make a trip tomorrow I will try to get some numbers and get under the hood. Thanks guys, I'll try to find out more. Or if there are any tips to identifying certain things let me know.

Heh, if the truck runs, and works, they make very good 4x4's, even in stock trim-and of course are mod friendly, if the rust monster hasn't gotten too far.
Still would be good to know the specifics!

4WD As original.

No 460 4WD's till 1983, and these were all F350's.

No 302 4WD's, no 351W's till 1981. No 360's after 1976. No 390's were ever installed in 4WD's. No 427's, 428's, 429's were ever installed in F100/350's.

1977/78 F100/250 4WD & 1979 F100/350 4WD engine choices: 300 I-6 / 351M 2V / 400 2V.

Transmissions: New Process 435 4 Speed most common / Warner T-18 4 Speed.

EBK when you go see it again, make sure to count the valve cover bolts if you don't get the chance to take a picture, this will further help id the engine.

Didn't the T-19 have reverse up and to the right, where the NP435 is down and to the right?

Also, there should be a cover with six bolts on the right side of the 435--which covers a PTO hook up.

You're right Jolly Green. The T-18/T-19 had up and to the right for reverse. They look almost alike, except the pto port is on the passenger's side for the T-18 and on the driver's side for the T-19. Another difference between the two is that the T-19 has a synchronized 1st gear, as the T-18 doesn't.

I didn't know the T-18/19 had PTO's too. Thanks for clearing that one up!

Warner T-19 Fits: 1973/79 F500/750 (and other big trucks) / 1973/78 F350.

None of these F Series trucks came w/4WD.

First F350 w/4WD = 1979.
