In the past few days it has been taking longer to crank to get the truck started. Now tonight I went out to start it and after the wait to start light goes out I cant get any cranking out of the starter . How can I tell what is bad?
So you turn the key and nothing happens? How old are your batteries? Any signs of corrosion on the terminals or grounds? Any clicking noises anywhere? If you turn your headllights on and try to start, do they go dim?
When I turn the key on everything comes on radio, key beep, One battery is about 6 months old the other about one year. I can here some clicking where the feul pump is . I did not try to start it with the headlights on. Any help is always great

Put your batts on a charger, then try. I think you may have a dead one. Get them load tested and always replace in pairs. De Opresso Liber. That's an Army thing for you guys. Look it up. Marines still rock.

The headlights do not go dim when I try to start it. When I first tried to start it tonight it cranked for about 1-2 seconds and then no crank at all.

One of your batteries may be bad and that is causing the other to drain down. Charge both batteries seperatly and then try to start the truck. After it starts check the voltage with a DMM and make sure that you have around 14 volts or so. You should also do a load test on the batteries to check to see if one or both have gone bad. Whenever you replace the batteries in these trucks always replace them in pairs. You may also want to check all your connections inclding the grounds. There is a possibility that something is loose or corroded.
I have tried to jump start it but It still wont start. I will start checking connections today. Hopefully it will be something simple
Thank you everybody
I found the problem to be on the switch on the transmisson . Wires and switch very corroded. Cleaned switch and wire harness and reassembled with some diaelectric grease and everything works fine now. Just a quick thanks to everyone who has chimed in to help . I really dont know much about fixing trucks. I had been a grunt for along time, but I got real good at kicking in doors for my felow brothers.
Thanks again
