OK I have a 2002 F350 Diesel 7.3, starts and runs fore a little bit then dies, turned on ignition and hear pump running for 20 seconds or more before pressure shut down, Thought that was to long, so put on new pump, same thing. Opened fuel-water drain and turned on ignition and plenty of fuel shoots out. Help I'm 30 miles to the nearest dealer for mechanical help and no way to get it there. Last two times I tried it doesn't start at all, Is there a relay somewhere besides on the dash, Oh yes I checked the wreck shut-off switch and it's pushed in. Help
1. Oil level - seriously, do it.*
2. How clean is your fuel filter?
*If you have an allen wrench (not sure of the size) then you'll want to check the oil level in your HPOP. If it's too low, their won't be sufficient oil to build the pressure needed to fire the injectors.
Others will chime in, but you'll need a 13mm socket to get the "PowerStroke" embossed plastic engine cover off to get to the HPOP & fuel filter.
The 20 seconds is normal... may have a blockage in the fuel pick up lines themself. Maybe take the fuel line off and take compressed air (with the fuel fill cap OFF!!!) and blow back threw the lines into the tank. More will chime in. Fuel filter too. Probably wouldnt be oil related if it runs for 5 mins.
That does sound like it could be a cam position sensor. I would remove it, clean it up a bit if you don't have a replacement, check the wires on the connector and the pins on the sensor. Put it back in and see what happens.
EUREKA, got a CPS at Autozone for 30.00 and problem "almost" solved. Truck runs and I know that was the problem, only thing is I couldn't get the sensor in the hole with the O-ring on it so pluged it in to see and yes it was the problem. Called oldest son at the lease "Bowhunter" wants to top Dad's 8 point with bow and he's coming here to help me later today.
Thanks to everyone for their help, sept the guy that wanted me to change oil in the pump (lol) started to wash the windshield also but thought that wouldn't help eather.

Glad you got it figured out.
I believe what Jim was saying is that clean oil may help, and to change all of the oil in the truck, not just the oil in the HPOP.
These trucks are oil pressure sensitive and will shut down when there is a loss of oil, or a fluid quality issue.

Fail to see any humor in these remarks. Low and or real dirty oil is often a problem with keeping these trucks running. You come on here looking for help we're going to point you in every possible direction.
