A couple more shots like that and you could make your own calender to hang on the garage wall.

We bought our 99 in 2002. It just turned 160,000 miles and have had very little problems. The Expy is great on the road. It can tow fairly well (4.6). It has the most room in the second row of any vehicle I've ever owned. I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

Yes I would buy another. I know of only 2 major draw backs:
1.) It will not corner as fast as my friends Porsche Cayman
2.) Gas mileage is not the greatest.
Besides for that I love my 2000 EB Expy

I have a 2004 XLT Sport 4X4 Expy that I bought new. I recently purchased a 2003 Limited 4X4 Excursion to haul the family (needed a little more room). I had planned to sell the Expy and get a small car for my daily driver. But, I just can't stand to give it up! I am still driving it, and probably won't sell it. Yes the gas mileage hurts the pocket book a bit, but I just love to drive it! It has 45K on the clock and the only time it has ever been in the shop was to fix the rear AC blend door (under warranty). Other than that, regular maintenance. I would do it again in a heart beat!

Yes I would much to the chagrin of my husband who prefers cars. Mine is a 97 and today just turned 230,900 miles without a hiccup. By far the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. I also have the 4.6 and I really don't care if it is underpowered. My reasons for keeping are many.
1. REliable
2. Safety
3. Comfort-I've sat in many different sizes and styles of cars and trucks and the expedition is just the best.
4. Clearance-I live in lake effect snow country and I have to have that in order to get into my driveway. She plows right through big drifts no problems.
5. Paid off-I do not like car payments and will keep this one till the wheels fall off.
6. A looker- still after some years and salt under her belt, I still get compliments.
7. Pissing off the enviro nuts- yes I know many think I'm a villan for driving a SUV but until you pay for my crap, shut up.

Here's another reason I'm keeping my Expy until it dies; eventually, I'm figuring (hoping) that the country will make a major transformation to more fuel efficient cars (natural gas, electric, whatever) and with the way the economy is going at the moment I couldn't afford to buy a new gas powered car today anyway. So, I'd rather wait until that next generation of vehicles comes along and maybe I'll get one of those, but I'll still have what many enviro nuts call a 'dinosaur' sitting in the driveway, still in great shape and still able to be the workhorse truck (and its paid for.) I had a '69 Ford Econoline that I bought from my dad in high school and maintained it until '99, over 330k miles and 30 yrs of service, it can be done. I'd rather keep and maintain my '00 Expy until it dies, no point in buying a new one IMO.

I did own 2 a 97 purchased used with 86,000 miles which I sold @ 192,000 miles and an 01 purchased new, I can not complain about either, the only reason the 97 is gone is I needed a SUV with more space, more power that could tow my TT without breaking a sweat so I purchased an Excursion, but will be keeping the 01 for towing my utility trailer and weekend driver/winter driver for my wife back and forth to work and if it goes 192K like my 97 did will own for another 15 years.

Thanks for all the feedback. It's given me some great ideas about the Expedition and some info to chew on. If anyone has anything else, please post it. Thanks again.

Yes, but do you at least try to keep up??!

Ask him to take you and four friends snow skiing taking the Cayman and see how well it handles that! (sports car and Porsche owner so just kidding here...)

My wife and I drove Explorer's for years (still do) and loved them, then when our 98 burned to the ground we bought a 99 Expy and we absolutely love it. I will own both for as long as I can find them in good shape for a good price. The Expy is what we take for family stuff as it is much roomier and the Expedition is for offroad stuff as it fits more places. I have the 5.4 and a 8500 lbs trailer loaded and it pulls it ok, not as good as my 1 ton truck with a 7.4 but adaquate. My only complaint is with the third row of seats taking up all the storage space, but we have learned to live with it and it's not something that would make me not get another one. I would pass on any older Expy with the airbag suspension as I haven't seen one yet that hasn't gone out with a nice repair bill. The first generation Expy's are great offroad the second on up are not. We have a second gen (2004) and I take it over the brand new (2009) Tahoes every chance I get. In fact people all fight over who gets the two older Expy's.

We've owned a '99 5.4 XLT since new. Other than the known head gasket problem (fixed under warranty) we have had zero problems after 100,000 miles. It is used for group hauls and otherwise to pull a 2 horse horse trailer to shows. If you are looking in the '98-99 age range, be sure the leaking head gasket problem and master cylinder brake switch recall have been performed.

Revisiting my old post. Now it looks like my Dodge Grand Caravan is on the way out and the Jeep is holding on. What a deal. Anyway, I posted in the Ford vs the competition board that I'm still looking for a different ride and I'm looking for a comparison between the Expy, Tahoe/Suburban, and whatever else there is in that size.

Warfarin, or anyone that knows, is that third row removable?

Yes, at least on my 2001 you can pull the thrid row seat with little effort. Now it's heavy and once you pull it out of the mounts, you better have someone helping you - in my case to take to the basement. If you just need a little more room it folds up and partially out of the way.

Want mine - just thinking - always dangerous for me?

Thanks

Mike
