Ok I admit that this doesn't apply stictly to the trucks covered within this section but it may make you stateside folks feel a little happier given that you are suffering similar economical problems to us over in the UK.
1.) We are paying over $2 per LTR of fuel
2.) The cheapest shipping quote I haved recieved for a set of dream beams is $518.
3.) If I wanted some American Racing rims in a decent size and fitment for the truck the UK importer wants £376 ($700 ish) PER WHEEL.
I must be either dedicated or downright foolish for wanting to run, maintain and customise my truck!
have you looked into the cost of shipping across the pond from can or us?
you might be able to get them cheaper here and shipped than that. maybe not... especially if you found used parts over here as im' sure you wont find too many there. just out of curiosity is that f100 of yours a right hand drive?

cheaper to fly here, buy em and send em back as checked baggage for $25 each?

yeah but dont you all get to drive MGBs and TR6's every day?
You have never heard of dream beams? They are aftermarket I-beams used to lower these trucks properly. They are called dream beams because most people can only dream about affording them. I kid I kid.
First thing that came to mind was some sort of accesory toy to go along with 'my pretty pony' or something like that.
riddle me this, if the chinese can buy up shot brake calipers, ship them to china (on a slow boat?), rebuild them, ship them back here, retail them for $20 and everyone is happy....why does it cost that much to send a few pounds to jolly ole? (no pun intended)

I have considered this!

Heh heh I love the generalisations MGB's are inexpensive and mostly pretty rotten, TR6's......not many about (not my bag anyways). The thing is, EVERYTHING is expensive by comparison - engineering services, tools (you'd have heart failure if you ever saw the Snap - on or Mac tools price listings over here), parts. I have been into a few different car scenes' and for the most part people look over at the USA and what people build and run with a certain amount of (good hearted) envy.
My daughter lived in Wales for about five years and I know what it cost to ship stuff to her. Considering the size and weight of the Dream Beams, $518 doesn't sound all that bad.
I have seen the prices on tools (and everything else) in the U.K. and my heart skips a beat every time I think about it. I can't imagine maintaining and operating one of our trucks over there. In all my trips I only ever saw one F150 and it was a newer model.
I admire your devotion and fortitude, mate. You're an inspiration to us all!

Feeling humbled now
Dream beams weigh about 90lb if I read one of my emails correctly? Even thought about seeing what it would be to send the old fashioned way - by sea!(jk).
There are more and more US models over here, especially new/recent ones as it is cheaper to buy and import, pay duties, pass SVA (single vehicle approval) and MOT, road tax then it is to buy a new car from a dealership over here. This is down to not only the price of the vehicle, but a larger engined car can/will cost as much as £850 for its first road tax. Getting the same/similar car imported and SVA'd will result in its first tax being £180. This is because of transparent government lies over "caring for the environment" and taxing those who use thirsty/polluting vehicles. Total nonsense and everyone knows it.
Where in wales was your Daughter, Texyank? I'm only 6 or so miles from the severn Bridges and have spent a lot of time over there. Good countryside and excellent roads for Motorbikes

I love the Severn bridge, beautifully done in my opinion. They lived in Williamstown in the Rhondda valleys. The mailing address was Tonypandy. They still have a home there they're trying to sell.
I really enjoyed the driving there, too. The countryside is gorgeous. I even enjoyed driving through the villages - although that can be challenging for a Yank who's on the "wrong" side of the road and the "wrong" side of the car on very narrow streets. I was probably a better driver there than here because I was very conscious of what I was doing. Roundabouts work great but take a little getting used to.
I never spent any time in Bristol but have looked at it across the channel from the beach at Southerndown. Does that count for anything?
"The valleys" is a unique place with unique people. Not far from the Brecon Beacons either. Nice place.
Never driven in America - wanted to hire a car in Vegas and head out to the desert but the other half of the time wasn't too keen on it (she's gone now). Driven in Canada though and it did take a certain amount of getting used to. Felt like the main man though getting to drive a mk4 continental, '76 corvette, blazer, chevelle malibu among others. The kind of thing young petrolheads over here dream of.
Driving a leftie over here (the F100 is my first) is great, once you get used to the fact that the truck is pretty much as wide as the lane you are in, you can use it to your advantage when getting kerbside to avoid other vehicles!
Shaun was hilarious. I dont own Hot Fuzz but saw it, you have to see them over and over to get the nuances but its funny too. And there is a new one run boy run?
Its titled "Run fat boy, Run" over here I believe...
Hot Fuzz......."The greater good"
Steering back on topic, recieved a quote of $216 to ship a whole lowering kit over - I am jumping for joy. Just got to be sure now that I beams for '83 F100 and F150 are the same after the whole VIN confusion - cue debate over kingpins and balljoints?
