trumph, the channels act as a water gutter and a stopping device. The channels run on a slight angle down to the front of the bed and on the two corners of the bed there are drain holes to dispose of the water. You realy can't see them.
I am in process however with summer weather I try to play as much as possible. I purchased a new Truxedo Velcro fastened soft cover that I cut down the frame and made a mount system using the stake pockets. I need to reinstall the frame and take the truck to a friend that does upolstory to fabricate a cut down cover. I will post pix when I complete it
I have completed my custom tonneau cover. The goal was to not add any holes to the bed. I made 4 short oak stakes for the stake pockets and mounted an angle iron rail to the stakes on each side and then mounted the hardware frame from a Truxedo cover that I bought reasonably on EBAY which I cut down in both width and length. I then worked with an upholsterer friend to sew a custom gray fabric cover.
In my case I wanted the cover to be weather (rain) tight.
Parkers has a soft cover, snap-on, with a hemi shape as it were, to prevent water from collecting and sagging the fabric. It's aluminum strap, cut a bit longer than the horizontal distance between the bed sides, and installed with a slight upward bend. Simple and works well.

Thanks. Desoto has been in since 92. Only problem has been a blown head gasket. Got stuck in a long line at In N Out on a 100 + day. Gasket went the next day. Poor judgement for using drive up window.
Thanks,
Al
