straight pipes

ok, my buddy wants to put a differnt kinda exhaust on his truck... most of us in my area have headers on our trucks...but he insists on being different(alot). so, he came up with the idea of running straight pipes right off the manifolds, makin true duals all the way back, and dumpin out in the middle of the bed (dump down and not out) what is your guys take on something like this??

I am not sure about the pipe to manifold. But I have mine dumped right behind the cab and I like it alot. I am sure you could make a flange to bolt up to the manifold though.

running pipe off the manifold is fine....
Make sure you dump after the cab to not only keep it legal but safe as well..

Here in New York, you'd probably get a lot of tickets and you probably couldn't get it inspected because they couldn't put the probe in the tailpipe. The only other things would be if you have all asphalt roads, because if you have a lot of dirt roads, you'll be in a dust cloud most of the time, not to mention breathing in fumes

They can stick the sniffer in, they just have to get under the truck...

Most of them won't do that here in N.Y.

Seriously?
I would demand that they show me where it says that the exhaust has to exit out from under the truck....
The law only states that the exhaust has to dump pass the cab...

yea... im here in the middle of nowwhere, Ohio. around here, emissions and noise is one of those things that nobody gives a $*@^ about. the real trucks here all have loud pipes. and he just wants to make it past the bed and dump down..... his main question was just if it would be an exceptable way of doing it

I agree, it is laziness but I can't tell you how many times people have asked me to get it out the side because they can't get it inspected
