I hate to disagree with you about the duramax and cummins being better than a psd. I have seen many psd go over 400k miles without ever taking the heads off or the oilpan! I know a guy who has a fleet of 15 to 20 psd. He has a couple that have over 600k without ever having the heads off! And he trusts these trucks to pull trailers and equipment all over the country!! I would like to see a duramouse or cummins do that or have such a good reputation like the powerstroke!! excluding the 6.0 mistake!! My truck is a 96 psd 4x4 automatic with 260k and still running the stock tranny!! The engine has never had any major work just normal maintenance and performance upgrades!! I even pull a trailer on a regular basis!

My dads 2000 E-350 has a 7.3 with 405k and he drives it 5 days a week. He would drive that thing across the country tomorrow if he had to. Never had the heads off or any type of major work. Just oil changes and the regular stuff. New tranny at 315k, it was just startin to slip the slightest bit, he just did not want to get stuck or stranded so he replaced it.
I've never really heard of a high mileage duracrap. Not sayin theres no such thing.

Forget to mention, its a dually, and he has had it loaded to the MAX, little overweight actually, but its been loaded heavy since day one.
I'm not sayin theres no such thing as a high mileage duramax, I'm just sayin I really havent heard of any goin too long.
I'll stay with the PSD, but thats my opinion, everyone got their own.

It sounds to me like your just looking for a good reason to get a different truck. If thats the case just do it. If not fix your truck and move on. Isn't that a pretty new to you engine since your last engine failure?

Say it isn't so Batman!! The Cummings is a good engine, only problem is that it's in a Dodge truck....The Duramouse, better than a PSD.. Don't think so, am thinking of buying a new truck and can't fathom that I'll be buying the worst in quality...

well, that's encouraging- I'm at 197k right now. vac pump just went, and my buddy who's gonna help me put the new one in is talking doom-and-gloom about once the problems start, etc, etc...course he's a Cummins guy (although I have to admit- his truck is freakin' SWEET!). I guess I can put up with him talking crap about my psd since he is driving 80 miles out of his way to help me...plus he's going to install his stacks on my truck when he gets new
