Tailgate cap removal

Anyone know how the plastic/rubber factory tailgate cap on my 2006 F150 Supercrew comes off? Mine is warped, gouged, bent, scratched and generally in poor condition. Thanks

well can you take off the tailgate cap and the bed rail caps easily without breaking them? Not just rip it off. I'd like to take them off to paint them.

Yes, they just pop off...might have to do some prying. Or you could do what I did this last weekend while taking a 150lbs furniture dolly out of the back of your truck and let it rip the cover off for you...stupid fricken hurricane. I've done more damage to my truck and property helping others recover from Ike than the storm did, darnit.

I digress...it just pulls off. If anyone knows a good, cheap place to get a replacement please post.

Bridge, the scars that truck is receiving are badges of honor. But I know how you feel. The van in my gallery was so beautiful before Katrina. I don't know if it will ever recover. But it has sure hauled a lot of rebuilding supplies these last 3 years.

I removed mine and the box railsand they are all good. I used a pocked knife to push the arrow tabs in. I started on the tailgate end for the rails and right side on tailgate. The molding clips are stronger then they appear.

I was loading a ATV in my truck and the tire caught the cap. It popped half of it off and broke the clips. When I tried to pull the other half off without breaking the clips I think I ended up breaking half of them. You just got to take it slow and use something to pop the clips through with.

The cheapest place I find for a replacement was the parts sponsor on here. I think his website is ftepartsguy.com . I could not find it cheaper anywhere else.

Ah, indeed. They have it for $31. It's listed under "tail gate mldg".

Yeah it is not that bad price wise. It is easy to put a new one on also.
