Nice car...but the paint job...geez did they painted blue right over the model designation on the front fender, unless my aging eyes deceive me. I think the model designation (X100) should be chrome.
Those old Marauders can't be common at all anymore, kind of rare when they were new. Anyone know what it has for an engine / I'm thinking probably 429, maybe 428 ?
Nice big, gentleman's express...kind of Ford's idea of a big Buick, back in those days.
I always felt those late '60's Merc Marauders were great looking roadmasters. Looks OK from the pix, wonder if there is any rust ?
Would be a nice gentlemens express as less put it (good description less)
My former FIL , a farmer orig. from Sask, then transplanted (what else would you call it when a farmer moves) to Mb. had a '66 Meteor (Cdn. version of a big Merc) with the 345 hp/ 428. It would move, once it got off the mark. He traded it in (they thought about giving it to me, in '71, but didn't) on a '71 Mercury 4 door, which looked like a Lincoln, but with the Marauder front styling. It had a 429, but it was heavier than the '66 and didn't have quite the snap.
I really liked the '66 428, it was pretty basic and it was very fast in higher speed acceleration.
Thanks for the comparison. Numberdummy is very knowledgeable as we know.
I've been a car / motorcycle / truck buff of all makes, since about three years old and of course I'm ancient now, so the information builds up over the years.
Now that I'm retired I can spend as much time as I want on what I like to do, which of course always involves vehicles.
Good stuff Les, the 1969 Mercury Marauder X100 are cool and were fairly rare cars when new.
Somehow I find that the more I learn the more I forget and the less I actually know........

Me too. I find the more I forget, the more I make up.
On my If I only had that car now list, near the top of the list is that '66 Meteor 428, 2 door coupe. It was never quite mine, but I did drive it, ever so often and it drove wonderfully well.
A bit of a sleeper, too, as it was a plain jane 2 door coupe, with any outside engine badging that indicated it had a 428. Nothing, unless I'm wrong and I've forgotten after all these years.
Just those two exhaust pipes sticking out at the rear bumper and a nice healthy V8 burble, was the only sign that this car, might not just have your average 289 V8 under the hood.
Any Ford/Mercury product in the 60`s with a 428 was so cool and a plain jane 66 Meteor 2 door coupe would be at the top of my list.
A friend of mine had a sweet triple blk 66 Meteor S33 convertible, sadly I never did get to ride in it..........

S33 would be nice. Those Merc's and big Meteors of the '60's had a class look to them. Very solid.
I thought that the 428 was a vastly underrated ( by enthusiasts) engine. As mentioned before I was always impressed by this engine.
Another 428 I had some experience with, was a friend's Torino 428. I think it was a CJ, but that goes back to the early '70's.
He had the 4 speed and took me for some runs. That thing was indecently fast.
Tremendous power. I still recall looking behind us and seeing two of the longest twin rubber strips....down Pembina Hwy. (a main road in Wpg.).
