My prescription specs came with a magnetic clip-on pair of dark lenses... I guess I get no choice in the "cheap vs. expensive" debate, huh?
I've decided that my next pair of cheaters are gonna be those "Transitions" ones that get darker in the sun. Carrying the clip-on's is a real pain in the rear end...
I had the transition ones before and I loved them. But when I wear my contacts I like the sunglass that have a red lens. Don't know the name of them but it costed me $55 for one pair.
Transitions would be so much better if they would darken up while driving, but the UV can't make it through the car glass. They won't darken up even if you are driving straight into the sun.
Since I had LASIK 4 years ago, I've bought expensive Bolles, mid-priced Solars, and cheap tinted ones at SafetyMaster. The cheap ($12) Uvex and Nemesis are great for skiing and dirt biking since they are wrap-arounds. I guess I would vote for the cheap ones. They all scratch up about the same, but I don't feel so bad about it. I do like a pair of $35 dollar sunglasses I got at the eye dept at WallyWorld - they are my favorite since they fit so well.
''Now go out and get yourself some big black frames
With the glass so dark they won't even know your name
And the choice is up to you cause they come in two classes:
Rhinestone shades or cheap sunglasses''
I used to buy expensive, but i'm too rough with them, i always drop, break, scratch, or lose them, so now I buy el cheapo's from wally world or a gas station.
Used to have a great set of rayban aviators but they were stolen from my jacket pocket one warm day. usually just get a new pair of Pugs at the local convenience store for $8.99 once a year.
Last time I spent good money on sunglasses was in 94, got a pair of Ray Bans. They grew legs, so they were replaced with a new pair of Ray Bans by the person I left in charge of them. That pair also grew legs, so then, my wife (girlfriend at the time) replaced them with a different model of Ray Bans. I've still got them 8 years later.
But I've also got a cheap pair that's 11 years old, in my work toolbox, a polarized pair for golfing, and a couple of metal framed blackouts. That's not counting my absolute favourite pair ever, that my wife sat on and broke. Cheap, $20, polarized, etc. Loved that pair. Apparently, not ***-proof.
I had a pretty good pair of mountaineering sunglasses when I was a kid. Remember those? Black plastic frames, aviator style, with the black leather blinders, and the mirrored top and bottom, but non-mirrored middle? Yep. I rocked those. Best, most comfortable pair ever. Wish I still had them for 80's nights.
always the cheap ones... since i tend to do a lot of work that requires eye protection... i buy like 20 or 30 dollar dark safety glasses for out side work in the summer... cheap... but still protect my eyes... and yellow ones to make things brighter when inside... especially durring winter months...
I have a pair of Serengeti's (sp). They have the copper colored lenses. Price was somewhere between 100-150 at Costco. I have had them for quite a few years now.
I buy Serengeti Drivers also! They are the only ones i like, no other sun glasses compare! But for work I wear 3M safty glasses Dark,(nobuddy can see my eyes)
I have a pair of Bolle's that I bought after I had my lasik. It was the only pair I could find to fit my watermelon head. Now that I have lost a bunch of weight I am thinking about getting a new pair... I like the look and feel of Maui Jim's Moku
