Good start, now you need to put the finishing touch on your repair. Look on the driver side door jamb for the configuration sticker. There should be a one or two digit code under the "PAINT" heading. Write those down and go to your nearest NAPA or local auto body materials shop. They can custom mix a 16 oz spray can with your color that will give a very nice match and its a one step process. Just mask and spray. The cost of this big can is about the same as those dinky little 4oz cans you find in the parts stores. I've used this twice in the past and have really pleased with the results.
Coolant level should be as high as possible. Excess and expansion should overflow into the overflow tank when the engine heats up, and sucked back in as engine cools.
i need to do this... was it hard to do by the doors, or did you just take them off?
it was fairly easy to do, but lots of trim needs to come off to do it. the plastic bits around the dash are very brittle on my van, i'd imagine they'd be just as bad on yours. the four self tapping screws at the foot of the door were completely rusted however and needed some work to release them from the plastic. i ended up going to the local hardware store and buying nuts/bolts to replace the original screws.
i left the doors attached, they dont get in the way, you can even close them once the paint is on. however, i should have removed the sliding door, the lower roller gets in the way slightly.
to remove the old rust, i used a drill mounted wire wheel. it chews the rust right off. to paint it, i just used tremclad rust paint.
they must pour the rock salt on by the ton in Canada for both the door sills and alum. oil pan to be corroded thru.
there is an anti corrosion blocking paint on for aluminum also but the pan must first be perfectly clean. usually requires hot dipping to get off the old salt and corrosion.
i like the duct tape.
required repair item for Aeros. torn seats, windows that won't stay shut, doors that won't stay closed, loose hoods and leaking radiator hoses.
can NEVER have enough duct tape
best to use the official Aero stuff though, documented here on the forum in past threads
imported from Canada. Red and Green Duck Tape.
one can even turn the Aero into a camper van with enough Duck Tape.
ya the salt just destroys cars here. i should get a picture of the nice hole in the drivers side... 8" by 5"... and to think my parents mostly used it for highway driving and got it oil sprayed yearly.
