Just realized today it's time for an oil change. Last time I changed the oil, to my suprise, was in February. Used to drive my truck at least 25K miles a year. Anyone else miss those days as much as I do? LOL.
I changed oil in March and still haven't hit a 1000 miles since the change. I really need to start driving it more, but the 50 cents to $1.00 differential between diesel and gas along with the high mpg that I get with the yota DD has just left the PSD sitting. At this rate I'll be a couple of hundred years old before I wear it out.
OK, Heres my take: See what you think:I have NOT been driving my '99 7.3 PSD very much at all with the cost of fuel being what it is/was-(I realize it has come down a little)
I have been driving our (paid for) 1997 TBird 4.6 instead. It gets high teens around town and about 23-24mpg on the highway.
Debate is:TBird costs us $650.00 per year just to sit in the driveway BEFORE any maintenance costs.
My truck gets a solid 15mpg in town all day but fuel is a little more expensive.
I'm actually thinking of selling the TBird and having AT LEAST $650.00 per year for "extra" fuel for the truck and just drive it spairingly-I do drive it about 30 miles per week just to keep it all lubed up and all.
Opinions??

$650 a year is not that much. It is always good to have a back up in case one goes down. I try to switch up and drive all of my vehicles a little.
I did the math on the cost of fuel, mpg, and the total miles I drive in a year to see if it paid me to keep the yota as a DD. I still come out ahead driving the yota and letting the Super Duty sit with the fuel cost per mile. The yota costs about 12-15 cents per mile and the SD about 28-30 cents per mile at current prices. If I drive 10,000 miles in a year that is about $1500.
i bought my 98 exploder with the same idea... it was good at the time cos i was driving 70 to 100 miles to work (one way) at the time. then school started and i moved. benefits went away, then the 'ploder's brakes failed, thanks to my brother. now if i was still putting 5000/mo on, then yeah, i'd hop on a $3000 30+ mpg car as fast as i could find one.
On my 01 I put 900 miles in 2007, Probably 1500 or so so far in 2008 (1000 of that was to Bowling Green, KY and back).
Been driving my 07 F-350 most of the time (33,200 miles Since April 07, and it was parked for the majority of the winter).....and 99 F-150 in the winter.
