Oil cooler.

I am trying to replace my oil cooler. I have all the parts out and the motor mount bolt out. But I can not get the motor to tilt. Do you have any tricks or tips.

It's a 87 F350 / 4X4

Thanks for any help.

Depending on which bolt you took out, there is another one or two bolts.

Three bolts into the block.
Two bolts hold the upper and lower part of the motor mount together, one front and one rear of the cross member.
Two nuts hold the lower mount to the cross member.

A couple pieces of 2x4 under the oil pan on top of the jack after the bolts are out, and it should raise right up a couple inches.

Before you wrestle the oil cooler, put a block between the motor mount and the frame.
If the jack falls or gets knocked out, you do not want that engine falling on your hand.

Three bolts.... I was told one, and yes I RTFM . I took the one out behind the cross member. The other two seem like they could be a pain in the ***. But thank you for the heads up. From the way it looked in the manual, it looked like just one. That could be the reason I could not get it to move.

Thanks

You can remove just the two bolts at the cross member which splits the motor mount from the frame pad.

The three bolts hold the upper part of the motor mount to the engine, I leave that bolted on until the engine is out when I pull one.

If you don't have both bolts out, it will not move very far.

And when you raise the engine, you are picking up close to 1000 pounds.

I will have to wait to try it. The truck is outside and it is going to rain for the next few days. Hopefully Monday or Tuesday will be the day I can get this beast running after three years of sitting.

I had it running for about 2 minutes to make sure the cooler was leeking, but that was for testing only.

Well I pulled the two bolts out and still not able to get it to move. Now I found a fourth bolt in the area but not able to turn it. I have the cooler unbolted and ready to be pulled. i just need that extra few mills to pull it.

Does anybody have a pic so I can see that I am working on the correct bolts.

Well I got to motor mount free. Now I am having a fun time trying to figure out the magic combo of twists and turns to get the cooler out.

I did mine once with the engine installed.

If I remember right, you have to roll the oil cooler over as it comes out.

Yes, you will be wearing oil and coolant before you get it out.

Pay attention to how it comes out, it has to go back in the exact same way only backwards.

As an after though, you only removed the drivers side motor mount, right?
And you have the engine up as high as it will go, right?

The engine/transmission has to be against the bottom of the cab to have room to remove the oil cooler.
