I own a 2004 F250 and I feel a vibration when I brake. It doesn't pull one way or the other and there is no vibration at all when driving at slow or high speeds. I just had the front brake pads replaced. Any ideas?
Thanks
Generally that is the sign of warped rotors. How many miles on the truck?
Turning rotors is usually fairly inexpensive. One problem of having them turned is that if it is properties in the rotor that caused the warping, it will still be there and warp again.
A lot of times you can see uneven wearing on the rotor(s) that are warped.
Warped rotors are a recurrent problem on 99-06 SDs, especially in areas of the country with hot and cold temperature fluctuations. I replaced them 3 times on my 2000 SD in 250,000 miles.
I haven't warped them on my F-250 yet, but I used to warp them on my F-150 all the time. It was all the long down hill grades right before forging a creek/stream during hunting season that kept doing mine in. (I know, I know, downshift, don't ride the breaks...) Stupid crappy hard to adjust rear drums forced all the breaking work to be done on my thin front rotors.
Anyway, turn them, or replace them, either way your problem should go away.
I had an intermittent problem with this...first press on the brake and I had shuddering in the front. If I released and re-applied...no issues. Found that the left front slide was sticking a little ... greased and now no issue.
Check out the rear rotors. Had the same problem on my wife's EX; turned out to be the rear rotors. Had front rotor issues with my F250; after cutting them several times I upgraded to slotted aftermarket, 50K and no problem since.
