ive got a 1998 ranger with a broken blend door, i know there is a nail fix (which didnt work for me )and there is a fix on ebay called heatertreater, this fix is 130.00 bucks which i feel is way to high for what you get. Another plastic blend door is about 15 bucks, my question is does anyone know where i can find detailed instuctions on how to access the blend door through the glove compartment then cutting into the plenum from the bottom and replacing plastic blend door with another plastic blend door.i realize that this does not fix the cause of the problem, but id have to go through 8 plastic doors before justifiying the 130.00 heatertreater fix.
I joined this site in April of 2004 when I found the "nail fix" for the blend door on my 98 Ranger. I have seen posts on this site that have very good photos and descriptions of what the blend door and heater box looks like. I still needed so extra guidance I went to my local Ford dealer and shamed them into giving me a defective heater box from one of their unsuspecting customers. The box that I got also has a broken blend door. I wanted it so that I could see what it looked like and use it as a guide so that I wouldn't hit the heater core (or anything else important) if I ever have to cut into mine with a dremel tool. My "nail fix" is still working fine but if it fails again, I plan on removing the door with my heater box in place and replacing the door with a reinforced version.
