so im sure that there are plenty of theses threads already started but i figure it is easier to just start my own. I am looking at getting new tires. I have a 2004 F150 FX4 supercrew. I am going to put a leveling kit on it when i get the new tires. I looked at the terra grapplers in a 275/70/18 and also the hankook dynapro AT RF10 in the same size. The other tire that I was considering was the BFG AT in a 305/65/18. Any comments on these tires or suggestions on them or a point towards a different tire?
I just took off a set of Rugged trail T/A's off my truck (275/65/18) for a heavier load rated tire. The tires only have 300 miles on them if you are interested.
I have the 20" rims, but can comment on the topic just the same as I just went through some of this myself. I had 275/55/R20 (31.9" dia) and went to 275/60/R20 (33" dia)to gain some sidewall. They look very good, however, I keep thinking I wish I had gone with the wider 305/55R20 as they look even better. I did not do it because of the extra ~$260 cost and the reports of losing 1 MPG. As it is I have lost about that anyway.
I just added a 2" AS front leveller too. Now those 33" tires look rather small in the fender wells. looks like 35" would be more appropriate, but then more $$, less MPG, and so on...
I have the BFG AT KO's 305/65/18 with a 2.5" leveling kit. Awesome tire, great tread life, they handle great, look great.... you really can't go wrong with them! They fill up the wheel well perfectly and IMHO this is the best combination for a leveled 4x4.
