I still havent got around to putting in my eng but today i was driving home from work and i stoped at a stop sing and my truck was puffin out white smoke like we were sendin signals or something..i turned the truck off and started it again a few minutes later there was no smoke any idea?
no ses lights or anything? its an intermitant prob it will be smoking then turn it off for a few mins then its all clear ....the white smoke is at idle up to about 1300 rpm while driving after that i don't notice it until i start slowing down
Kinda odd.... sounds like an electrical problem with it going away after a restart. But normally any problem related to white smoke and something electrical would be glow plug issues, and only on cold starts. If you're smoking while the engine is warm, and you can get it to stop by restarting the truck.... that's strange indeed!
When it starts to chug white smoke, does it do it when the truck is up to operating temperature, and does the truck start to run goofy/sound goofy? It sounds like a lack of fuel pressure caused by something stuck at the pickup in the tank.
Reason I say this is when you shut the truck off, the fuel pump no longer is pulling so now whatever was stuck at the fuel pickup has now floated away. It will start normal, because that obstruction is not at the pickup, but as you are driving the obstruction is floating around, it gets a small pull and now it is sitting at the pickup(screen if stock, hole if hutched). This would cause no ses light either.
If you look through my long list of threads about my issues with my truck you will see that this is how it all began... Every now and then i would get white smoke. Slowly became more consistent to the point of anytime i was not on the throttle and at lower rpm's. I AM NOT SAYING YOUR MOTOR IS GOING SOUTH! I am warning you to figure this out asap! i chased problems for a couple months... If you go to my profile you can look up all the threads i have posted. Look through them and see what order i did things in and save yourself some trouble... Good Luck
A temporary fuel pressure gauge can be used, take it and zip tie it to the wiper cowl. Can be done cheaply also. Next time it starts to screw up, look at the fuel pressure. If its low, your problem is somewhat found. If you don't have AE and can't get your hands on what, that would be the first thing to check.
I found the problem it was the turbo seeping oil when it gets hot...so i need to find the parts to convert my van turbo thats been sitting on my work bench..thx for all the suggestions
Update... CCV mod gone wrong my tube became pluged causing back pressure thus forcing the oil out my turbo seals then creating my white smoke, I knew bette than to use a par that once belonged to a chevy....stupid me
