Inverter

I have a 400w power inverter, the kind you plug into the cig. lighter. How do i hard wire it into my fuse box. I want it to have constant power. I also have the idea of taking it apart and mounting the two plugs somewhere in my truck. ANY help and suggestions will be helpful thanks!

i would not put it to your fuse box, i would run a wire with an inline fuse from the battery, and just cut off the cig plug, there will be 2 wires one posi one neg. and dont take it apart, you can just run a extention cable (the kind with a plug on one end and just the wire leads on the other) from it, and on the other end make a junktion box for the plugs, out of a home style box.

Ya valid point about not going to the fuse box. So your saying to "remote" mount the thing its self and put plugs where i want them with cords going to the actualy box instead of taking it apart... good idea! thanks

brady hit that one out of the park....

Hard wire it to the battery... Then run extension cords to where you need them in the truck.... Make sure you put that inline fuse in though... Should be about 6" away from the battery on the hot wire...

Sure, and then go to the hardware store and pick up an outlet and face plate. Mount it where you need power.

I would put a switch on it somewhere too for long term storage. It may have a voltage sense that would stay powered up creating a bit of a draw that could drag a battery down over a couple of days. A relay wouldn't hurt either, so the power would only be on with the key. Either way, just something to think about.

yeah putting a swich in would be a good idea...you migh have one on the inverter in that case you could open it up and extend those wires to a swich on the dash or somewhere else so you can turn it on and off...i didnt do that, and now i cant trun mine off, and some times it over heats and makes this really high pitched noise that bugs me but i cant really do anything about it....

That high pitched noise you hear isn't from overheating. Mine will do that when the battery starts running low (I run isolated dual batterys). Always a good idea for a switch, mine has a cooling fan that runs whenever it is on. I have a 1000 watt inverter mounted under the back seat next to the subwoofer. Gives camping trips a whole new meaning.

Is it going to interfere with my amp at all. I know running high power electronics with a amp in the vehicle can sometimes cause some noise through the speakers...

A decent inverter shouldn't feed any noise back to the battery, but run different wires for the amp and the inverter. Also make sure you have a good ground from the battery to the body.
