I was looking at getting a DC to AC power inverter for my 88' F250 with a 6.9L Diesel so I can run a block heater for my tractor and have some mobile electicity at the farm. I wasn't sure if I have to get a 24V inverter since it has two 12V batteries or if I need just a 12V inverter. Also anyone know how many watts I need to run a block heater?
Thanks
You just need 12 volts. The batteries are in parallel on your truck, and I am assuming on the tractor too. The only thing I have run across so far that is 24v is a military vehicle.
The wattage of the block heater you have is a good question, and you need to figure this out. I have seen some advertised at 200w, and some at 400w. If you want the max a normal 15 amp 120v circuit can deliver, that would be 1800w. If you can determine the wattage of the block heater, and also the largest tool or other load you will be plugging into it, then you can buy the proper size inverter.
