I notice it roll very easy plus not use much throttle. It increase nearby 3 mpg.
But when I am pull trailer I need go there adjust brake to get back where it was then when finish haul then adjust to let brake not touch rotor
Is your truck 4x4? 302? Do you have pic of that truck? Can you go to scrap place to dump something you have steel and have them weight so I am curious how your truck weight. My 79 F150 weight close 4,800 pounds.
Some numbers from a 95 ford bronco equipped with a 5.8 engine. No modifications from factory stock. These are honest numbers.
65 mph on the flat with the cruise control set gets me an honest 17 mpg. In town and freeway combined gets me about 13 1/2 to 14 mpg Those numbers reflect adult like behavior while behind the wheel. If driven like a maniac plan on a lot less mpg

Those numbers are very similar to my 5.8 Bronco.
One thing I've noticed is that the speedometer reads about 5mph slow at 70 mph. I'm actually doing 65. I have the stock size tires on it.

Same in my 91 5.0, Once i get up over 55-60 my speedo reads bout 5mph slow, when i get around 85-90 it reads ~8mph slow, this is with 31x10.50 tires.
I thought i might be because it hard slightly larger tires when i bought it(32x12.50) and it was adjusted for those tires. But i really don't know. I checked this will the gps on my cobra radar detector and cops radar trailers on the side of the road that tell ya how fast your going. It was even about 3mph slow at lower city speeds. This was consistent on a 2500mi trip from Oregon(home) to Georgia(base).

I've never checked to see if my speedo is accurate. My tire size is P-265-75R-15's which is what my vehicle calls for mounted on the original aluminum wheels

I can't tell if the rear brakes are working or not (I have an odd squeal that I can't identify coming from the brakes when i press the pedal but it goes away as I use them that day). The pads are old and most likely original but not used enough to replace them (therefore they must not get used very much). There was only 84,000 miles on the truck when I bought it and all of those miles were gentle. This truck is in pristine shape and the 302 runs like a new motor. There is no slack in the wheel and no "odd" noises coming from anywhere. Personally, I think this in the closest anyone will get to a "new" 93 F-150. BTW, the truck is 2WD and there is a picture in my gallery but it is the same as my avatar. I have buffed the oxidation off since that picture and I hope to take some more this weekend if I can find the time to wax it.
As far as how much the truck weighs... I can find out but it will be awhile before I can weigh it (couple of weeks). I think I read somewhere that the curb weight for this truck is about 3884??? but I do not know. I don't have much weight in it as of right now. I weigh 147 soaking wet and i MIGHT have 50 lbs of stuff in it including the aluminum toolbox. I can hold 18 gallons in the front and 16 gallons in the back so... 3884 lbs + 147 lbs + 50 lbs + 6.15 lbs per gallon * 34 gallons = 4290.1 lbs. That is a rough estimate.
I've got an F350 with a 460 in it!!! Gets about 8mpg in town and about ........ 8 mpg on the highway!
Just thought i'd add that to the discussion.
Funny you should bring that up. Thing with those big bad boy trucks is it is probably about the same with 8000 lbs hanging off the end of it unless it is stacked 14 feet tall!
I think the tank switching thing may be a possibility with the high fuel mileage mentioned. I also think speedometer/odometer error contributes in many cases too especially when tire diameters are messed with, not to mention gearing in older trucks. I know in my case, when I went to 31's vs 235's the PSOM was way off and based on the telltale counter, had never been changed since new. Thus I would be more inclined to believe that the variation is more a matter of the truck lying to the driver vs the driver lying to us. Oh, one more thing...31" does not necessarily mean 31"...the main reason that metric sizing came about and even that isn't consistent. There are formulas out there to calculate the correct # for the PSOM and sites like Tirerack list heights for different brands to calculate the correct value to input. Even at that, load on the truck, inflation pressure, even wheel width, etc can vary this so a careful actual measurement is probably the best bet on a specific truck to set it accurately.
