trailerhitch robbing ground clearance

I have an '85 Bronco XLT with the factory towing package. I love the advantages of haveing quad front shocks and a transmission cooler, but i just can't stand how low the trailer hitch hangs! everytime i go four wheeling, i scrape it, or get it hung up somehow. does anybody know of a better, lower profile 2" class III hitch for my Bronco? your help is much appreciated

I ran into the same problem on my 90 Bronco. Instead of a trailer hitch I made my own bumper with a hitch built in. I Just took a 2in X 6in X (width of bronco) piece of tubular steel and cut out a 2in X 2in. hole 1.5 inches from the top and bottom and in the center of the piece of steel. Then I welded in the hitch piece so now my hitch is in the middle of my bumper, basically where the license plate used to be. My departure angle is greatly improved. Other than that idea I could find no other solution to the problem. I am also designing a thicker skid plate for the gas tank since that is what gets caught up once you fix the hitch/bumper problem. The skid plate will protect the gas tank and then connect to the bottom of the bumper so that any rocks will "slide" off the skid plate after the bumper. Good luck with any solutions.
