It basically comes down to Car Idiots. Top Gear panders to these people...and these people take their word as Gospel. And then have no clue how totally wrong they are.
Sadly they feel the need to bash on American vehicles. Even though we produce some truly exceptional ones. It is funny thought that they love the Euro version of the Focus and Fusion...but hate the Muscle cars.
What is even worse, is that our own shows are pulling this crap. Ever watched the Trucks episode where they built a Banks Single Cab? They tried to say a Reg cab with 5.4 couldn't do a brakestand. and then fiddled with the dyno HP #'s to get under 200 HP on the dyno...all so they could install a bunch of Banks crap and magically gain 50ish RWHP...and people actually believe this to be the absolute truth.
I watched that clip back when it was new and wasn't pleased but I missed one thing they were wrong on that bugged me, especially since Jeremy had a Ford GT at the time. HE claimed the L had the same 5.4L that the Ford GT does, as we all know aside from the size it isn't even close to a GT engine. I wish they would have run that truck on their course I would have loved to see what time it got.
The lightning and the GT do both use the same engine - sort of. It is still the 5.4 modular block, the GT has DOHC heads and a dry sump oiling system however.
I had forgotten about Jeremy saying that the F-150 had a 5.4 4v...wonder if he even spent 5 minutes of research?

that is like saying the nag in the pasture across the street is the same as the Kentucky Derby Winner. They share the same displacement...and that's about it.

They share more then that. The GT engine is pretty much the standard 5.4 re-cast into aluminum with improved Cobra-R heads, dry sump oiling and a super charger, but yes it still is misleading when he says its the same engine.
