i have a 1994 f150 with automatic trans and when i shift from park to any position, the indicator stays in park. then when i'm not looking, it's all of a sudden where it should be. so it's on it's way to breaking. what do i do to fix this?
The indicator is moved by a little white plastic-covered wire under the dash that runs to a post on the bottom of the shift lever.
This wire has a little adjuster on it you can use to fine tune the positioning, but it's possible that the wire has broken and you'd need a junkyard indicator to replace it.
It's easier to see if you remove the lower part of the dash, but if you get up underneath, you should be able to spot it.
