I once had a midland 79-290 and was able to install it directly below the aftermarket 1 din radio on the same bracket by removing that storage thing they add to take up the extra room. I now want to place a galaxy dx959 in there and it is slightly wider than 1 din.... any suggestions?
Only thing you could do is to trim the dash and the hole out to fit the cb.... But that would be a permanent mod... I dont know if thats something you would want to do.....
yeah, I got too many radios in that thing, I have a smaller ICOM that I was thinking about putting in there, but as of yet I really haven't done more than pull the old one out... maybe a project the take the dash apart again and do some serious looking at it.
If your 959 is as big as my DX73v, I doubt it will fit without a lot of work. If it is, I think your going to have a much easier time with the icom. My 73 is mounted next to my left knee on the dash, somewhat vertical.
its a dash panel that installs in place of ur lower panel uses existing holes. you use radio plates to fit your radios to it. when you order the dash kit you spec for the radios you want and they will send the plates. its a lil bit of money but well worth it. jotto desk or havis shields doesnt matter both are quality just personal preference on plate styling and layout.
When installing a CB into a havis trim panel can you still hear the cb from the internal speaker, or do you have to install an external? Where are you installing the external if so?
we install a external for almost all radios, you can either install it into the havis panel as it holds many things or you can put the external almost anywhere. alot of the installs we are doing now were tapping the front door speakers for the 2 way radios. we install a diode on each radio connection to keep from backfeeding. otherwise the sky is the limit on where u wanna place an external speaker.
havis builds em so does jotto desk among many other vendors as well. you can also get a blank plate and build your own say if you want carling switches. or switches of ur own taste for that matter. whats ur ideas Cabldawg? what would u like to do?
For my CB I have a modded TNT Super Modulator & modded Texas Star 667. (old school stuff, but still very effective pushing 1685 watts) I want to mount these boxes in the bottom of my center console and effectively extend the switch panels for on/off, pre amp, hi/low power for each box up to the Havis panel.
I have a small switch panel I put in the blank for the electric 4x4 ***** (mine is manual 4x4) for triggering a relay to pass power to my power inverter underneath the back seat. The other 2 switches I plan on using for additional KC lights up front when I upgrade my bumper and winch.
I would like to eliminate that small panel all together and put everything into the havis and put the blank insert back in.
